I thought I read somewhere on here that you can change the angle range on Crack the Dat PAT's angle ranking section. Is this true, or am I mistaking such a feature on another program? The angles look static to me and not drawn by the program itself, so I'm not sure if this is true.

Also, I just went through the first 2 tests, and I honestly thought the TFE and paper folding was a lot simpler than what I was expecting. Are these two sections representative at all of the real thing?

A guess a third question, do the tests on CDP get progressively harder, or are they more or less consistent?

thanks everyone

you need to have their deluxe/ultimate package I don't remember the exact naming of it but it includes 2500 extra angles, cube conting, hole punching etc. Its the most expensive pat one.

this is where you can change the degree difference. So if you start the program and in the drop down menu don't see 2500 angles then you do not have the package that includes it.

TFE and pattern folding is relatively on par. I do think that on cdp you can get TFE answers for most question from line counting while on the actual exam it only helps narrow the choices down. Since I don't do line counting I can't attest to this fact.

cube counting is much clearer and less complex than on the real test.

bah, I guess i'm too cheap to buy the royal flush edition. Hmm, for angle rankings I might just write my own program to generate some angles. Better than upgrading i guess...

oops, forgot to thank you for your reply. Does anybody else have their own experience between CDP and the real test?

Actually I'll be letting YOU know. My test is near the end of this month :scared:

well then, in that case, i'm gonna need you to report back with at least a 25AA and tell us how easy it was. k thx 😀 but seriously, GL. I know you're gonna kill the chem section.

lol, i'm aiming for a 21 AA or so. Luckily the PAT is not incorporated in this score. I'm just hoping for a 18 on this section, as running out of time will be inevitable for me.

I expect a good score out of you though

don't know about that mh...you've pretty much been money in your posts, I could easily see you breaking 21AA. same goes for needz.

by the way I did exactly what you said for the angles...I don't have that laptop anymore but I'll see if my dad can dig up that little applet for you. it's nothing too polished, but the sheer volume of practice did help me get from 12-13 to 14-15. you could probably code it up yourself in a half hour max, but i'll pass it along if I can find it.

good luck fellas! 👍

Thanks for the encouragement rock. I think i'm a little more nervous than what I would have been 4 years ago after I graduated. If you can find the program, that would be very cool. Don't go out of your way though 🙂 Do you do any programming yourself?

I'll see what I can do...if that computer hasn't been reformatted or something since then it should still be there. Used to own a small web design operation with a buddy of mine in high school and did some programming for that and on the side...once did an AI Connect 4 that won most of the time actually.

This is actually how I got started into programming, a friend and myself started a small business coding PERL scripts. I stopped programming in college, but picked up C++ after graduating, and now diving into C#/.NET

Do you think possessing such a skill might be a small plus in the eyes of dental schools?

AHHHH, its been such a long time since I've played Connect 4. lol. I actually remember seeing a dissertation written on connect 4. If I recall correctly, always take the middle column first. If you own the middle column, you own the game apparently.

In the eyes of dental schools...probably not. A crowd (dental students, schools, the whole profession) that puts so little emphasis on QR (and as a whole isn't particularly good at it, either) won't really take notice of that kind of thing. That being said, I plan on using it as best I can in practice...maybe designing schedule and control systems so that I can automate as much as possible. There's also some opportunity to get involved on the technology side of things: CAD/CAM, CEREC, etc. I'm sure having a solid technical background would really help if you wanted to branch off into that kind of thing, or especially if you were able to come up with some kind of golden idea for a new tool like that.

Haha I think that's probably true for Connect 4...my game didn't exactly play perfect strategy (if there is one) so I can't say for sure though lol.

lol thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I'll do my best to make you two, along with sdn, proud. :xf:
