Hi everyone!

I just finished taking my first CDP test! I'm pretty happy with my score of 22 considering it was my first try. I came across a few keyhole questions that were kind of questionable though! I've attached pictures to 2 of the questions.

For Question 1, the correct answer is C. I chose B instead. I can see why C can be the answer, however it really depends on how much the object is tilted. Does anyone else see why I think B could be the correct answer? I just feel like this question is very vague and either could actually be the right answer and it all depends on the drawing. From the drawing, it seems like the back of the object IS in fact a little higher than the front.

For Question 2, the correct answer is B but I chose E. Again, I feel like we encounter the same problem. It really LOOKS like E could be right. Can someone please explain why E is the wrong answer?

Thank you so much in advance!

Friend,
I see why you chose choice B, thinking the farthest layer exists higher than the closest layer. This is incorrect. I did not see this on my real PAT, but it does appear in CDP often and should be understood. The closest layer and farthest layer are at the same vertical level when viewed from the right side. I will definitely agree with you that just glancing at this figure, it does appear that the vertical level of the rear layer is exaggerated, thus making the rear appear higher, but this is not true. The tilt of the object does not matter either because if it were tilted to satisfy the jut in the top right of the aperture, the upper left protrusion would look different that it is in choice B.

Regarding question # 2, this is a tough one. But to answer your question of why the answer is not E: choice E and choice D are apertures for the exact same shape, thus both must be wrong because you can't have 2 answers. C is not to scale. A is an easy elimination, thus B is your answer.

Let me know what you think

Best,
CP

Thank you for ur feedback! Regarding question 2, why are E and D apertures for the same shape?? For E, the triangle shape in the front and trapezoid in the back could be on the same plane, if you know what i mean. It could be just one irregular shape, making it fit through E but not D. Does this make sense? Lemme know what you think!
