Hello all,
I'm planning on taking the DAT July 20th or so. However, my major concern in speed-especially with the QR and PAT Section. For the QR section, did yall find the calculator function helpful? or would you advie against using it too much on the real exam, did it help or hurt u? I feel like I understand the problems, but cant do them fast enough to get to all of them-last practice test, I didnt get to about 6 questions. Is this common for most test takers?

Also the PAT....It's been a struggle. I have CDP and Kaplan. I find CDP's pattern folding pretty difficult, so I've been working through those, but I cant always get them in 30 seconds. I've been practicing the tests over and over, but I'm not sure if my improvement is simply because I've seen that particular figure before, you know? How can one be certain that your brain isnt just adjusting to seeing the same problems? Also, for those who have taken the DAT. Are there lots of pyramid like pattern folding questions? I find that sometimes I can just look at the layout and determine the answer, but others require wayy more thought. Any suggestions?

for PAT, use CDP only, kaplan is way too easy. CDP is the best source, its most similar to the DAT, yea pattern folding was very difficult, the only thing you can do is just practice and spend less time on it, if you dont know it you dont know it, save some time and move on to the next question.
for QR, i got a 19 on the real exam ( 93%), all i did was use crack the MATH and kaplan math, and if i didnt understand the quesiton, i didnt even spend more than 5 seconds, i just guessed and moved on. that happened to me with like 2 questions on the real DAT, and i did fine. I used the calculator on quite a few questions on the DAT, its a very basic calc, just +,-, division and multiplication. nothing else. get used to using the calculator, it speeds up the process.. make sure you dont get caught up with questions on the QR, it gets most ppl..if the question seems complicated, just guess, mark it, and come back to it if you have time. MAKE SURE YOU SEE EVERY QUESTION. some questions towards the end may be very easy, but since you spent alot of time on the beg questions that were complicated, you technically gave up 2 questions from not getting the complicated one correct, and missing out on deff getting the easier one correct....hope this helped.haha
