Hey All -
So I thought I'd just throw this out there and see what the SDN braintrust thinks.
I applied in the 2009 cycle with 3.09/2.99 GPA, 32 MCAT.
- published in Nature
- lots of research in general
- nothing amazing for ECs, regular hospital volunteering, little community stuff
I got 2 waitlists (Tufts, Drexel) and 1 accept that didn't work out at USUHS (if you want the long story, see "post abt my sordid past" in my blog). Waitlists didn't pan out.
SO, I am reapplying this summer. I'll be 26. New GPA is 3.1/3.0. New MCAT is coming out in a couple weeks, but I expect/hope/would guess that it is >32. I also earned a graduate degree in biotech from an Ivy (GPA 3.74). I got more hospital volunteering, and got more involved in community service. I also became a resident of a state with a great med school for which my stats ought to be almost competitive.
Overall, I'm hopeful since I'm no WORSE a candidate than I was last time round, and I was pretty close then.
Thoughts? Specifically, are there things I should watch out for as a second time applicant?
Oh yeah, also, I only applied to 10 school the first time around, which was dumb. THis time, I'm applying to >25 schools, MD and DO.
