So, my summer class schedule is all set.

First 5 Weeks
Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday:
9-1 Chem I
1-4 Chem Lab
4-7 Physics I
7-9 Physics Lab

:::Week Long Break:::

Last 5 Weeks
Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday:
9-1 Chem II
1-4 Chem Lab
4-7 Physics II
7-9 Physics Lab

Am I going to go crazy? Am I going to fail these courses? Anyone else doing something like this/done something like this in order to get courses done on time? I worry that its going to be too much--even though its only 3 days a week, that's a long time to be in class and apparently chemistry and physics are difficult by themselves, let alone together for 12 hours per day.....

sigh....just wondering. hopefully it won't screw my GPA too much.

I did something like this last summer minus one class. I took both physics 1 and 2 with labs. I also took an advanced physiology of aging/development(grad course). I was also doing clinical observations hours two days a week. It was not fun, but it is certainly doable. You will have to manage your time exquisitely. Also, it helps to get a good early read on how your teacher(s) grades exams, quizzes, labs. Much of undergrad isn't always about what you know, but more about how your teacher grades/curves the class.

Do not get behind. During a regular 15-17 week semester, you may do 1-1.5 chapters a week. During a 5 week summer session, you may be doing 3-4.5 chapters a week. It makes an immense difference.
-Study regularly
-Utilize the tutor(if needed)
-Get a good read on exams/quizzes EARLY
-Do your best and forget the rest
Best wishes to you!👍

It is possible but it will be painful. I was able to complete two science courses (Bio II with Lab and Physics II with Lab) during a summer session and I got A's.

Monday thru Thursday, I spent my whole day at the college... I think it was like 8 to 3pm with Physics II and 5 to 10pm for Biology II.

The key thing though was the break between classes... which allowed me to relax, eat, and complete any assignments due for the next class or the next day. By the end of the night, I went home and knock out. 😴

I think not having a break between will hurt you. And because it's a jammed pack summer session, don't expect to be let out of class early 🙁

And... physics and chem are not easy subjects for some students. Good luck!

Agreed with the other two, you can do it- it'll be rough, but you can do it! 🙂 Plus, my personal opinion is that chem and physics are easier to do together because they both involve a lot of math.

And I didn't mind chem or physics- I found them both enjoyable.

GOOD LUCK! 🙂

I wouldn't do it if you have any other options, but that's the way things have to happen sometimes. The main thing I would be concerned about is getting burnt out. Maybe you do stellar this summer but with really no break (maybe a week or two, but after 10 weeks of 12 hour days) before the fall semester how well do you think you'll do? That was my main problem after taking hard summer classes, was focusing on in the fall because I needed a break! Make sure your professors are good too, it makes a HUGE difference.

Also make sure you schedule in time for yourself, it DOES make you a better student if you are able to balance leisure with your studies and other responsibilities.

Good luck!

After the summer sessions I will be done with my pre-reqs and applying to PT schools so I won't have to worry about the fall semester (thank goodness, lol)!

I'm still worried about getting burnt out though...its a lot in such a small amount of time but I'm optimistic.

thanks for your support guys!!! 🙂

That's how it was for me too-- My summer session was the last bit I needed-- I just kept telling myself that when I would get discouraged- It was only x amount of weeks and then I was done!!

It'll be rough-- the thing about physics is that you have to spend time on it-- having it every day really helped me solidify ideas/concepts moreso then my friend who took it 3 times a week during the semester. Yeah, it was condensed a lot more, but I didn't forget things as easily.

Honestly, chemistry was a breeze for me- I really like chemistry, and in Chem 1 and 2 you don't do all that much as far as complicated matters go-- my prof was really big on us knowing how to name compounds, and it helped later on, especially with acid-base reactions (just remember an acid and a base always makes water and a salt! 😉 )

So, yeah it'll be hard having it all at once- but you are on the homestretch! YOU GOT THIS! 🙂

It's certainly possible, but I would not recommend it. When you take classes during the summer, you generally study for the test, and not study for the long-term. A class like chemistry will set up fundamentals that you will need in other classes. Physics is the same but to a lesser extent.
Secondly, your science GPA is very important when applying for grad school. You're taking a course load which you are not sure if you can handle. Are you okay with the outcome of getting straight B's in all of those?
Just because you know you'll be able to devote all or most of your time to studying doesn't mean you're guaranteed A's in all those courses. Not everyone, but a lot of people find those courses hard, even just on their own.

Welp...classes started yesterday and I just about died, it was the longest day of my life. Chem wasn't so bad, but I had no idea what my physics professor was talking about half the time...oye. Thanks for the support guys...whew. It's only 5 weeks, it's only 5 weeks, it's only 5 weeks...
