I have an acceptance at FLECOM and GAPCOM. After thinking it over and getting more information here, I like GAPCOM the best and notified FLECOM. I have also gained acceptance at Touro and waiting on DMU. I prefer the Atlanta area for living location. Would it be crazy to give up acceptances at a schools of known reputation for the match/board scores based only on location?

Well, I think you're crazy for wanting to live in Georgia, much less Florida.

But if you're planning on going into a noncompetitive residency, I think it'll be fine for you to go to one of these schools. However, if you want to do radiation oncology or whatnot, go to an established program. Even though TUCOM has only been open since 1997, it already has a good track record for match.

Your making the right choice. Go with your gut. Atlanta is a great place to live and we will be backed by PCOM Philly the mother of all DO schools! But i'm not biased.

I mentioned this on another thread...I think it is always very risky to go with unproven schools. DMU is well established and has a fantastic reputation nationwide.
Touro is developing a very good reputation.

I think it is simply hard enough entering clinicals and residency being a DO...why make it harder by going to an unproven school with an unknown reputation in an area where no one knows what the hell a DO is let alone why a school in Atlanta is called PCOM.
But hey, if you like georgia.

First of all, I'm from Iowa and it is f'ing great...........actually just kidding, Iowa sucks. and it sucked for 18 years of my life.

on the otherhand, it really does not matter where you are during medical school. I live in florida, and I am so consumed by school that I don't get to enjoy such things as the beach, hot girls, and whatever else florida has to offer. You will be stuck in your room or a library and usually not doing much besides studying so keep that in mind.

Also, I agree that you should go to an established school. besides the fact that GAPCOM is backed by PCOM, it still has NEVER produced any doctors. And without that, it will be much harder for those people to get the residency spots. just think about what you would do if you were an attending or chief resident and you were deciding on two applicants-one from an established school like DMU or one from a school where the candidate is from the first class ever..............

If you go to school at NOVA and dont have time to enjoy the beach then you are spending too much time studying.

Medical school can be a rough schedule, but there is no way you need to give up the good times.

I tailored my study schedule so I could have weekends off and it worked out great for me. My first 2 years went by fast and I did really well in school.

Go to the school that you had the best feeling about. Dont worry if its new or not...every great school had to start somewhere.
