Hello:

I know this is not the popular route (non-APPCN), but I have personal reasons for wanting to be back in a particular state that has ZERO adult neuropsych post-docs for the upcoming year.

I am curious if it is appropriate or even feasible to reach out to hospitals where I have done prac, or to hospitals that offer neuro internships in the area to see if they would consider a postdoc. Is this incredibly unrealistic?

I am clinical focused and so obtaining my own research funding is out of the question. I have seen people start postdocs in private practices and even at my current internship at a hospital, but without a solid relationship with faculty, I'm just not sure how this would be approached -- if it should be approached at all in the first place.

Has anyone else had any luck starting a neuro postdoc?

You can certainly ask, but I'm not sure how warm of a response you'll get. In general, even though there's more infrastructure support, it can in various ways be more difficult to do this in a hospital setting than in a private practice.

The end result might provide better training, but hospital faculty (depending on the hospital) may be less willing/able to try to piece something together on the fly. But if this is for next year (i.e., 2019), that would at least give them maximal advance notice.
