Hi,
I will be working as a hospitalist soon, I got a lot of paperwork from the hospital asking to provide certifications, patient/procedure logs etc. I thought this is something the employer took care of by contacting the other hospitals? Is this normal process? Just wanted make sure to understand...

oh no...very normal...there will be a LOT of paperwork involved, asking you the same questions over and over and over...good thing you are starting now...credentialing can take months...

Normal. Even when you contract through a staffing agency, they'll give you tonnes of paperwork. A good staffing agency will start filling in some of the forms for you, but be ready to spend multiple hours filling out redundant paperwork. The worst is the request for peer evals, so you have to harass your friends to fill out paperwork too.

I filed out so much paperwork for my first job that it often felt like I was filling out the same information over and over again. It took me about 6 weeks to become credentialed so expect long delays as others have said. I have already learned that medicine is filled with lots and lots of paperwork.

Fixed that for you.
