Is the long term goal to match in CA to be back with family and get support with the kids?

Hackensack is the most affordable so I would definitely go for that. I do have a friend at Creighton Phoenix and they are super happy there too and they say the med student community is very supportive! I think Hackensack and Creighton are your best options.

Thank you guys for all your input!

This one kind of depends. I’m open to returning back to CA in the future (residency and/or beyond) but am willing to stay in the East Coast if we like the area.

I would go Hackensack and not think twice, getting 25k scholarship per year is 100k over four years,, they also have a lot of job opportunities for your siginificant other, not that you should make descisions purely based on that, but if you both have a chance to be closer together and not sacrifice opportunities for you, that is worth more than one would think. They have NBME exams, which essentially means you are prepping for your boards with every exam you take during medical school, think of the time savings and the benefit.

Gotcha, if you were gun-ho about residency in CA, I would recommend Loma Linda or Creighton. Being geographically close would be good for networking with desired programs and save you money on costs for away rotations (flights/transportation/housing).

Since you are open, go Hacksenack or Georgetown if you come off WL

Average debt might say 250k, but usually most people pay the sticker price.
I wish they would tell use the median indebteness. The few folks that get full ride scholarships or have parents that pay the tuition in full really pull down the average

This was what I was thinking as well. This may be a more accurate assessment of what I will likely pay for. I will not be getting any family support during medical school, and my SO is planning to work during my 2nd year.

Creighton: ~$109K/year full COA (assuming no scholarships)
Hackensack: $73k tuition - $25k need based aid = $48k tuition alone +COL
Georgetown: $74k tuition + COL
Loma Linda: $67k tuition +COL

Yeah Hackensack seems to be the best deal, particularly if you end up doing the 3 yr program and/or the urology research fellowship (if that specialty is something you feel fairly set on).
