I got my final acceptance letter today and thought it was time to make this thread. I'm guessing it won't get too many replies (because I'm kinda pessimistic), but I'm going to start it anyhow (I'm trying to become more optimistic 😉 ).

I'm a girl (tomboy), 32, and a former chemical engineer. In between engineering and two years of post-bacc work I was a caretaker, EMT, and volunteer firefighter/EMT. I like to snowboard, waterski, hike, play hockey, watch good movies and drink good beer. Since I've lived in Terre Haute, IN for the past three years all I could do was watch movies and drink beer. So now I'm trying to get back in shape before school starts.

I can't wait to get to Omaha. It seems like a cool place to live after Terrible Haute. Although, I'm leaving behind my husband, two dogs, and cat and I don't know anyone in the entire state and I have no idea where I'm going to live yet.

OK, someone else's turn...don't crush my optimism (mention if you'll actually be in Omaha the first year too)...can't wait to meet my classmates. 😎

I am also going to be in Omaha this fall and was wondering if anyone had found a good place to live. I have a few places in mind but just thought I would see where my classmates might be.

Wow, I had given up hope on this thread...haven't even been to SDN at all in the past couple weeks. Yup, I'm cheating on SDN...

I'll be visiting Omaha in a couple of weeks and trying to figure out which region of the city and which apartment complex I want to live in. Right now I'm torn between downtown for convenient location and the NW suburbs around 105th and Blondo for value, space, and NOT being right next to campus.

I'm worried about availablity of the more inexpensive lofts downtown too. I called Old Market Lofts and they only had one 1 bedroom apt. up for rent. :scared:

I don't know if this link might help you out...

hey, a friend of mine had a loft downtown, prob. the same building, not to bad, he had a cool community outside roof area with grills/pool/hottub..not to bad, but not a lot of space either...def. enough for 1 or 2 peeps though...cant remember what he was paying....on the down side the parking was not secure at all, it was under an overpass...one of my other friends was visiting one night and his car got jacked...that always sucks

That sounds like Old Market Lofts...if I live there I think I'll go for the parking garage for security, mostly cause I'm a girl...don't think anyone would really want my crappy old Civic.

I have also been looking at the Old Market Lofts and they are very short on one bedrooms. Do you know of any other places that are suitable downtown?

I don't know if they're suitable or not, but I think the Greenhouse Apts., Farnham 1600, Harney St. Apts., and Cornerstone Apts. are all downtown.
