What do you guys think of this school? Any strengths or weaknesses compared to others?

Excellent school, rich in tradition. When I think of a strong dental school (in all areas), I think of Creighton. Doesn't stand out in a crowd, but certainly isn't a lackluster choice.

The one major drawback would be old facilities, but that isn't a kicker for everybody. They provide a solid education and graduates that I've spoken with have enjoyed their time there.

Sorry I can't be more specific!

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD !!!!!!!!!! I just found out I got into CU!!!

How did you find out about your acceptance into CU? And congratulations!!!

BigRed: email and phone... they're really nice over there... they don't mind answering questions and admission questions.... I was worried that I was being too pushy but I couldn't help myself from dialing the number....

TO all at Creighton... can someone help me out with housing questions... what was the name of the apt complex that most live at??? Omahahahahha you out there???

If you look at dental school as costing 250 thousand, live it up for the first year or so in the old market. Old Market Lofts are very nice. I lived there for a year and a half. Dundee area is nice and close, otherwise I'd stay west. By jr and senior year 10 or so people from each class live in the builtmore or lions head apartments. You can also contact the school, often times people are looking for roomates. Go for a tour on friday if you haven't already and talk with whoever take you on a tour. Good luck.

I called to schedule a visit, and through random twists of the conversation found out that they had accepted me. However, I didn't get a phone call or an email from them. Is it common for schools to just send packets in the mail, and not directly contact you with acceptances?
I ask because most posts I read on here indicate phone calls or emails notify students of acceptances.
Plus, due to MLK day I haven't gotten anything in the mail yet, so am hoping the lady that I spoke to wasn't toying with me....

Congrats on your acceptance. People live everywhere, so it's difficut to pinpoint an exact area. Some do live in Old Market (downtown) but I would say that most people live west of 90th street. That's where most of the big apartment complexs are. I think you'll like it here. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me.

It depends on the school, but Creighton just sends you a letter. No call, no email, just via the good old Postal Service. Congrats.

Omaha cost of living is 80% the national urban average, as compared to LA at 280% and New York at 450%.

My friend's brother in law went there and he said he studied, drank, and had the time of his life.

I guess that just depends on you. I can tell you that you'll pay between $500-$600 for a one bedroom apartment here. Take that times for 4 years and you'll paying about $28000 just in rent.

You can do what I'm doing, get a group of good friends together and buy a house for about 100k and sell it when you graduate. It won't be that hard to sell the house/condo later on either. there are plenty of small houses in midtown or townhomes in village green, a lot of Creighton students live there. Good luck!

What will Creighton cost the out of state student? Is 250K a good estimate or can you do it for less?

Since Creighton is a private institution, tuition will be the same for in-staters and out of staters. Estimated costs according to the financial aid figures (2002-2003) are $198,482.

boogaking, congrats. I was just accepted to Creighton as well. I'll see you in August!

Whopppps!! My first post and I made it twice--sorry everyone.

Why do CU split their deposits into two installments... same with their acceptance letters... they have the initial acceptance letter where you send in 500 .... then a final acceptance letter??? where you send in the 300.... Just wondering... what is going on in bwt these steps... are they still reviewing the applicants? Im already looking for places to live over there in Omaha... I haven't been taking classes... just working so... no more transcripts to send... any inputs on this?

Congrats to you too dz.... I'll catch you in the fall... let me know if you there early...

How full is Creightons class? Anyone know?

I showed up for the visit on Friday and they told me I'd been accepted when I got there. The letter showed up a few days later. I really liked the school and will most likely be going there. See ya'll in August.

Creigthon splits the deposits for 2 reasons. 1) To withhold "final acceptance until people finish their planned undergrade classes and 2) By setting up a two teir deposit system they can have a better idea of the incoming clas size on June 1st or whenever the 2nd deposit is due. Because believe it or not, some people are accepted at multiple universities and send in deposits to multiple universities to give themselves longer to make up their mind. What I'm saying is that not everyone will send in that second $300, there for leaving room for alternates.

The school was built in the early 1970's, when you think about the life of a building, that's really not very old. Anyways, I've seen some D-schools that are ancient compared to Creighton's.

If the class is full and I have not sent my deposit in does that mean that I am out in the cold or am I still ok as long as they get them the $500 before the date listed on the acceptance letter?

Also, what can you tell me about the implant program over their at Creighton. I heard that Seniors get to place them while Juniors assist and then do the crown. Is this true? If so, how many can one place during their two years. Also, what type of Oral Surgery, Perio, and endo experience does one get?

Finally, I see that 198K is the estimated four year cost. However, this was from 2002/2003. Do you see them raising tuition soon and if so what does the class of 2008 estimate the total cost of their education to be?

i think that they have seats reserved for those they sent letters out to. i'm pretty sure that schools accept more than they have seats for because they know that not everyone will put in a deposit. Creighton also has a waiting list in case the class does not get filled up by the summer and have taken one or two from this waiting list 2 weeks before matriculation in the past. so i think you're fine.

about the clinical experience...i don't know much about it yet since i'll be starting clinic in May, but as a second year, i get to do my first class 1 restoration in march! as for the implant question, the students get to do everything... i don't think there are limits to perio, endo, operative, pedo, oral surgery, prost, etc procedures as long as you fulfill your basic requirements either to move on to senior year or to graduate. but absolutely, when i observed in oral surgery first year, i saw seniors extracting and the juniors assisting, with pretty close faculty observation/assistance.

hope that helps

My infosource says that I got waitlisted in Creighton!
What does that really mean? I hear that the class is full, so does anyone know how many people usually come off the waiting list?
Or is it just a nice way of saying that "we will reject you at a later time" 🙁 😕

Hey, I just posted on another thread regarding your question. I was told that they place hundreds on the list, that the list is not ranked and everyone has an equal chance. Also, only about 10-15 actually get off that list. I was waitlisted too, and at first I was excited, but now, I'm not so thrilled. Best of luck.
