Any insight on these two schools would be greatly appreciated. I am from the upper mid-west, predominantly D.D.S., and have never been to Arizona. If/When I get into dental school I hope to return to the um-w.

I know ASDOH is a relatively new program vs. Creighton. Both schools are big on clinical experiences. ASDOH has the MPH program.

Thank you!

What's that part for?

A couple of things about AZ. They have a modular curriculum and you take boards after year 1. Your 4th year is almost 100% hands-on dentistry. Half is done in the clinic on campus, half is done in rotations at clinics around the country. You can put in your preference where want to go spend 4-6 weeks at a time. You can stay in-state too. You could even go back to the upper midwest if you wanted. The MPH is there if it interests you. A certificate in public health is mandatory and built into the curriculum...you just gotta take some additional classes to make it a masters.

I don't know a ton about Creighton. I've heard great things. The main dentist I shadowed was a little disappointed I didn't apply there.

Edit:
Just know what you're getting into with ASDOH. Someone will inevitably tell you that you need a magic number of volunteer hours and that they want people who will work for free after graduating. It's all nonsense. Just do your homework. Same applies to all schools you apply to.

I put that in there because it is all I ever grew up knowing. 3 of my family members are D.D.S. I did research on DMD vs DDS=no big diff. But having talk to a couple D.D.S. dentists there seems to maybe be a preference amongst patients where I am from...could be just the people I asked, most of them have been practicing 20+ years. The degree title is not a dealbreaker for me. I just want to survey opinions. I know I am not the chooser, I go where I get in and ASDOH and Creighton are up in the top with my choices for school.

P.S. I know the numbers thing is all nonsense 🙂 I interview at ASDOH Nov. 1.

Sweet. I'll be there next week. I'm open for PMs about anything specific. It's just up the road from me and it's what I know. We have Harvard to thank for DMD. The story behind it is silly.

You can also PM me with any specific questions you might have... i go to ASU and have been going to ASDOH events for a couple years now. Also have a few friends attending right now!!
