Just wanted to get some opinions on this: (TLDR at the end)
Toledo:
Pros:
-in state (lower tuition)
-health science campus with attached teaching hospital
-better simulation center
-clinical experience starts in second semester of M1
-exams that are proctored like step ( don't believe they're NBME exams tho, more geared to class) / NBME finals at the end of the semester
-already revising clerkship curriculum to help with match (since step 1 is P/F)
Cons:
-apartments/living aren't as nice as Omaha
-know nothing about Toledo as a city
-school (library/lecture halls) are more out of date
Neutral: (relevant, but doesn't hold much weight in decision)
-175 students
-seems to have similar research opportunities as Creighton
-closer to home (distance isn't super important to me)
-match results mostly in state but good institutions (cleveland clinic, ohio state) always in top location
-ranked 93-123 on reddit thread from residency directors and usmle
Creighton:
Pros:
-did M.S. here so already familiar with facilities, labs, resources, a few faculty
-somewhat more up to date facilities (also building new medical school, but not open until my M3 year)
-better city, nicer apartments available, familiar with city already
Cons:
-private school so tuition is about 20K-30K more per year
-clinical experience not til M3
Neutral:
-130 students
-Match seems to be more out-of-state than toledo, but still a good majority to CHI health/UMNC that are local
-further from home (10 hrs by car/flight)
-ranked 66 on that reddit chart circulating, unranked on usmle
-again, seems like similar research opportunities
TL;DR:
I think I'd have overall similar experiences/opportunities from both schools. Toledo seems to give me earlier clinical experience, while both schools give me a pretty similar opportunity for research. I think they overall have similar match statistics with similar numbers in competitive specialties. Open to anyones thoughts/opinions or anything I might've overlooked.
