So here are my stats and was wondering if anyone would be able to give me constructive criticism on things I could improve on, or things that I could randomly do to make me stick out. And possibly which schools I should be looking at?

School: Northeastern University, Boston MA
Major: Biology
Year: 2 (out of 5 at NU)
cGPA:3.877
nsGPA:4.000
sGPA:3.839

Northeastern has 3- 6 month co-op periods, where I will do diabetes research, volunteer as an EMT in costa rica, and the last one will be ER/ambulance work in boston

Work Experience: 2 years as a pharmacy technician in an independent retail pharmacy, 5 years working in medical records at my local hospital back home, 6 months doing type 1 diabetes research

Research experience: One year of genetics research on campus researching C. elegans (will be a 4 year project in total-will probably publish), along with this job that I have now researching type 1 diabetes in a lab

Volunteer experience: Will live in costa rica for 6 months volunteering for an ambulance service or a clinic as an EMT, will probably volunteer in a hospital when I get back home

Shadowing: none.

Clinical experience: Just the costa rica volunteering and the coop where I will be an EMT in boston.

Other EC's: Bio club, pre-med club (plan to be an officer for 2-3 years after I get back from Costa Rica)

I haven't taken the MCAT yet.

Any suggestions? I know I should get some volunteering locally and shadowing under my belt. Thanks😀

Sorry this was a long post😴

Since your planned clinical experience looks to be strong, I'd suggest some weekly, non-medical community service for the local volunteering. Ideally this would be something you'd care about and do regularly through colllege (weekly, or every other week during the school year), whether Habitat for Humanity, Humane Society, soup kitchen, homeless shelter, or whatever.

Besides the shadowing, also get in a leadership experience before you apply (officership is fine). Teaching and/or evidence of teamwork (sports, music, etc) is also regarded well.

I looks to me like you have a good handle on the usual expected activities, and you've got a good start. Since you're planning well ahead, maybe you can come up with a stronger-than-typical leadership experience, perhaps rising out of your community service involvement.

You don't have to come up with a wow-level plan this week, as you have plenty of time. Eventually something will come to you that seems really important. If you can be dedicated to a goal, instead of accomplishing it because it's expected, it isn't as difficult to achieve. As you read more of the MDAPPS linked under members' avatars, you might be inspired with a worthy idea.

your sitting in a great position right now. GPA is stellar, keep that up. EC's are good, I might get some clinical experience; try to get some shadowing and some time in a hospital. Write a 30+ on your MCAT and you'll have a great app.
