Anyone knows what happens if you fail CS but won't get back the results of the retake in time for the start of residency (essentially, not having passed CS by intern start date)? Thanks.

It's a bad situation for any poor soul who made it this far b/c essentially, you will not receive your degree without having passed the CS. If you do not have a diploma, you will not be allowed to start your internship. Even if you do manage to land a spot in the match, the contract can and mostly likely will be voided as the contracted pre-supposes that you will have graduated in time to start in July. The only solution is:
1. Convince a program director to save a spot for you and let you start whenever you get your passed results/diploma (August, September, October)... good luck with that one.
2. Take a year off and do what any person who has 93.6% of a medical degree is qualified to do... "Would you like fries with that?"

Thanks for the reply. My school does not require that we pass Step II, just that we take it; thus, I will definitely graduate in time for the start of residency.

Does anyone have experience/knowledge of a PD allowing an intern to perhaps take vacation for the first block to allow his CS score results to come in? Ideally I don't want to take a year off due to my scores coming in a few weeks late. Thanks again.

it varies by program, but most programs now require step II cs prior to beginning - you can usually find this information on FREIDA for a given program. i think you ought to discuss this situation with your dean and/or the program in question.
