Hi ALL CSPM Students!

Along with the other incoming c/o 2013, I don't want to spend if I don't have to.

Do you guys have any suggestions/list of the books that SHOULD be BOUGHT for reference and the books that shouldn't even see the light of day on our desks?

For later years, Pocket Podiatrics by Leon Watkins is good. The surgical texts by McGlamery are very good too. You'll use these texts in school, residency, and practice. You'll also want a small book of medicine for use in general rotations. I think I had Harrison's.

I realized that you're INCOMING students. You guys can get used anatomy books for Gross Anatomy. If you have a BOUND book, like Neuroanatomy, coordinate it so that 1 person buys the book, takes it to Kinkos or some other photocopy place, and has copies made for the class. This will save some money for the entire class and help each other make friends too.

Whatever you do, don't cheat yourself out of resources. Some students would not buy books, try to get by with class notes, and be totally lost during the exam.

Most of the books are on reserve. It is possible to do well without buying any books at all for your first year at CSPM. All of the recommended anatomy books listed in the syllabus are good for references.

Books I definitely do not recommend buying: physiology, histology, and biochemistry classes. When you study for boards, study off of First Aid USMLE.

You apparently missed ethics class.

It really depends on how you study. Keep in mind, you have a TON of material and you don't have a lot of time to be reading all the books. You will have slides/ syllabus for everything

1st semester:
Physiology: isn't really useful til the 2nd semester
Histology: I barely used
Anatomy: color atlas I used to study for practicals at home, Netters is good for reference
Biochem: his slides come straight from the book, but sometimes they may be a bit difficult to understand so I would actually recommend his book

2nd semester:
Physiology II: book more useful, but again i personally didn't use it too much due to time constraints
Neuroscience: I never opened this book, i kinda wish i didn't buy it
Anatomy II: see above
Lower Extremity Anatomy: I didn't use the book much
Biochem II: see above
Intro to Clinical Med: there is no book for this class

Only buy the anatomy books. Matter of fact, definitely buy the Netters.....and the Color Atlas of Anatomy by Rohen is very useful.
