Hi CSU people 🙂

I know that CSU is not on a "paperless" system and that laptops/tablets are not required, however are there people who do use tablets in your class? This is one of the only things I am a bit disappointed with at CSU- I really liked other schools I visited who had the computer requirements and everything was very standardized, plus it's much nicer not to have to carry loads of paper all the time. Also, does anyone know if CSU is considering switching over and becoming paperless?

(Don't get me wrong though, I think CSU is a great school! It'd just be nice if if was more computer based)

CSU does have a set of laptop computer requirements, and strongly recommends you purchase their specific laptop. If you check your acceptance letter it gives you a website to go to for orientation information and computing requirements.

All the lectures are provided to First-years on CDs so technically CSU can be paperless.

Though you are correct CSU does not require a tablet just a standard laptop. You can still purchase a tablet to use at CSU , I stupidly bought one in november and will have to adjust it to meet CSU's requirements.

Hope that helps.

What do you mean? Would it be stupid to buy one if it did meet their requirements?

Well all I meant was that I should have waited. But you can buy a tablet just make sure it just meets these requirements:

The following specifications should be met in order to be supported and run the required applications for CVMBS.
Processor – Duo Core CPU
Memory – 2 GB
Hard drive – 80 GB
Video card – 128 MB dedicated memory
Monitor – 14 inch or better
Multi-media – DVDRW
Network/Wired – 10/100 Gigabit Ethernet
Network/Wireless – WiFi 802.11b or 802.11g
Operating System – Microsoft Windows XP Pro, service pack 2

Getting XP put on is the big thing since the software for the case management system will only run on XP. And this is where I have the problem I got my tablet all setup with Vista and everything and now I have to reformat it and install XP, needless to say its not fun : (

This is the tablet I bought its good requirements wise except for the OS:

That seems really antiquated to require XP SP2, rather than Vista! It's probably getting harder and harder to find new laptops/tablets with XP preinstalled. Did they say why?

Edit - I'm sorry, I see you explained why! Well... are they working to update their software, then?

Does anyone happen to know the laptop requirements?

Here ya go, straight from the website:

I imagine the company that has designed the software just hasn't finished porting it over to Vista. Hopefully they will soon.😀

I'm not sure if the requirements have changed since last year, but when I bought my laptop I e-mailed Dr. Stewart and she contacted the computer tech guys who told me the software would be compatible with Vista. As a matter of fact I'm pretty sure most of the people in my class who regularly bring their laptops (not many) have the Vista OS. That said, I have never taken my laptop to class, so it really isn't necessary before you start in Aug. From what I've been told, it's in the clinical years (3rd and 4th) that the computers are necessary in order to work on the VTH system.

I can tell you from second-hand experience that my fiancee has a 3 year old lappy (1.86 ghz centrino, 1.2 gb RAM, windows XP), and it gets along just fine with all of the programs required. She might have to upgrade her 3rd year, but cross that bridge when she gets to it.

:welcome: Software company!! hah hah!! that's rich. It's homegrown software so don't hold your breath for Vista.. Don't worry.. you can get XP for cheap at the student center and the support is actually pretty decent (unless you go Mac).
