ctenophora does not have a alternating polyp/medusa stage does this mean that they are in polyp stage the whole time...and polyp making them asexual right?....i know corals are polyp and corals are obviously immovalbe but that doesnt have nething to do with polyp does it...it just means sense its polyp it means its asexual.....

medusa on the otherhand can be sexual or asexual; in good conditions they are asexual but if the env detoriates it b/o sexual....


can some1 clarify on something that im not right in?

Unlike other jellyfish which have complex life cycles (benthic polyp and planktonic medusa) the ctenophira has a simple life cycle. They carry out their life cycle in the plankton, hence they are haloplanktonic. They are hermaphrodites meaning they carry both male and female gonads. Hence, they reproduce sexually.

.As far as Ctenophoras go, they are a different phylum from Cnidarians all together so they are not characterized as polyp or medusa. Where cnidarians' are typically gonochoristic (2 distinct sexes), ctenophoras are typically hermaphrodites.

Is it the whole concept that you want to understand or is there a specific question ur working on?

cnidarian=can alternate b/e medussa and polyp....they can also be asexual or sexual but the coral can only be asexual and polyp

cteno..=is only polyp and is only sexual

basically is that correct

They DO NOT exist as polyp or medusa at all in their whole life cycles. However, they exist with planktons hence are haloplanktonic. They are hermaphrodites, they reproduce sexually.
