to those of you aware or went to the CUNY scools can you give me a idea which college is better for Pre Med studies???

I just transferred to City College instead of
going to Hunter. Because some Med student told me in
City college their science program is better, and more
organized then other CUNY schools. My question is this
is a good idea right? b/c the process is still
reversible .___.
Also does anyone know if City College has pre-med club
or email link group like in Hunter?

Thanks,
Kai

I don't know where you got your information but I think you're wrong. I went to Hunter Post-bacc and most of my classmates and I have gotten into med school. The program is competitive but it excellent and receives respect from med schools. Go to Hunter or you will regret it

Dude I went to City College so listen up. CCNY has THE BEST science program in the whole CUNY system. If you dont believe me then visit the campus if you can and ask them what percentage of their students are accepted to med school every year. The CUNY medical school is right on campus (in Harrris Hall), so if you are curious, you might take the time and speak with the faculty there.
If you are interested in Research they offer many opportunities for you to involve yourself, but in the end its up to you. They have the best in terms of counselors and every semester, many med schools visit the campus to give the students an opportunity to get to know the schools. The pre-med association is very well organized.
I am not saying Hunter College is not a good choice by any means, but CCNY is the flagship of CUNY. The science department is top- notch. So congrats on choosing CCNY 👍 . If you have any question feel free to PM me.

CCNY has an excellent science and premed program.

Hunter is my choice 👍

Best in terms of midtown convenience and classes, plus there is alot of research around at the school plus down the street at Cornell, Rockefeller and Sloan-Kettering. I didn't like CCNY so much and was way put off by their pre-med advisors. Lolita Woods-Hill (sp? name?) was so rude to me and told me I was "too old" and not to apply to her program. Strange, Hunter said I was awesome and so did one or two medical schools. It's amazing how well you can do when people support you.

Anyway, I just finished my first year of med school and I have to say that Hunter was incredibly good to me. The professors were very helpful and I learned to work hard and have confidence in my abilities to succeed in science.

If you are a minority (I am not), Hunter also has a good program for research, etc. and they regularly send people to Stanford, Harvard and Cornell as well as any other school you can name. About a 65% acceptance rate for post-baccs, I think?

Look, they are both good schools.
Its a personal decision on where you feel more comfortable.
both colleges will help you get where you want to go, but in the end only you can make that happen no mater where you attend.

So like i said, go to where you feel most comfortable and work your ass off in order to reach your goal.

As for being a minority and CCNY. The college has undergone some profound changes in the last decade, open admissions has been largely eliminated at CCNY with a huge impact on the student body. I would dare to say that the demographics of the student body at CCNY is undergoing a change whereas the student body will become predominantely white in the near future. (Go visit the campus sometime and see for yourself). If that is good or bad I dont know (nor care), in the end the science and premed programs there will still be top notch.

Anyway, I am straying from the topic, its a personal choice if you attend one school or the other.

I don't know too much about Hunter, but I've heard better things about City College. The professors are excellent and some are very well known in their field. The coursework prepares you very well for the MCATs and also med school (if you do advanced level coursework) The students are very helpful and it's a family. The Caduseus club is a very helpful student group.... they have different med schools come and speak and you get to visit different schools or acquire information from those schools. If none of this is convincing enough, go to City College for the opportunity for Lolita Wood-Hill to write your pre-med recommendation. She is the best advisor you can ever ask for. And trust me when I say, a lot of med schools know who she is. She's actually very good friends with many heads of the admissions committee. There has been many fairs and conferences that I have attended and mentioned that I attended City College. And their response is.... "Oh you're one of Lolita's kids." That to me was enough for me to know I had chosen the best school to do my post-bac. Ultimately, it's up to you, but when people are looking for a good post-bac, I tell them about City College. All the people who have gone there and have done well, have gotten into med school. Good luck on your decision.
