Just out of curiosity I have a question, is it possible for a surgical podiatrist at a hospital to be the chief of surgery at the hospital? Thank you
It is.

Love this quote:
Wessels says," It is all about inclusion. To be respected as an equal partner in the healing arts we must have full inclusion on hospital medical staffs. Each generation of podiatrists must help pave the road for the next generation until the day will come when the hills my generation had to climb will just appear to have been distant bumps along the road to the next practitioners."
-DR. MICHAEL WESSELS
Yes, it is possible. It is also possible for a podiatrist to be chief of ortho. I think we will see this more and more (although it will never be the norm) as more and more students graduate from the great residency training we now have in place.
BAHAHAHA!!!!
Hypothetically.... at best. Unless you can provide proof of this being the case somewhere of course...but highly unlikely.

Yeah, chief of ortho probably doesn't exist anywhere. Wukich is the Chief of the division of Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery at UPMC though. That's probably as close as you're gonna get right now.
Dr. Wukich is an ortho, not a pod.
But Chief of Surgery is sometimes over the Chief of Ortho, depending how the hospital departments and divisions are structured. But, really, who cares about all that. What really matters is being able to do your job and treat patients to the best of your ability. Leaders come in all stripes and with various degrees. Natural leaders rise to the top and lead.oops
