just out of curiousity, i'd like to know how long optometrists must go to school after undergrad? also why do people go into optometry as opposed to opthamology? I'm not interested in becoming an OD (working on a DO)..but I was just wondering..

O.D. school is four years. Some people go into residencies after graduating but it is not required to practice as an optometrist.

Optometry and Ophthalmology are different. Optometrists are more like primary care providers.
