I was curious, How many C's and/or D's has someone gotten on their transcripts and still got into medical school?

4. And I still got into 5 med schools.

If you don't mind, could you specify whether they were c's or d's

Well.... I suppose i don't mind that all of sdn will know how dumb I am. C+,C+, C-, unsatisfactory (counts as a D/F)

if you don't mind my asking how'd you do on your mcats?

and which medical schools?

i haven't gotten into school yet, but i have had no presecondary rejections and 5 interviews with 7 Fs, 1 D, 1 C-, 2 Cs, and 1 C+ (3.4 overall). i did have some extenuating circumstances though.

I got a C+ in one semester of orgo, a C in one semester of bio, and a C in one semester of chemistry. They were all in the same year (also an extenuating circumstance). But I was a science major and able to redeem myself somewhat in upper-level courses. I've gotten four interviews at great schools, though (but no acceptances yet).

31Q

and which medical schools?

Penn State, NYMC, UMD, USUHS, Drexel

I've had a bunch of interviews though (10). So my grades haven't hurt me too badly. Plus, I've even had an interview at a top-25 school (Duke).

5 C's
English 102
Old Testament
Organic Chem 1 (though I retook and got an A)
Latin
Geography of the US and Canada

No D's or F's

32 MCAT

In med school.

Hey this is a very reassuring thread to all of us who have a C on our transcripts 🙂

Beep, did you explain your extinuating circumstances in your personal statement? Was the grades brough up in every interview??

did you guys apply on-time (after junior year) or how many years after graduation?

one C+ expository writing yuck!

but i have a lot of B's....my freshman year..

from that pnt on...A's and one B+ 😎

yes, i explained my extenuating circumstances in my personal statement, although of course in the context of explaining what i've learned from my experiences and how they've shaped my desire to be a doctor. i put in exactly one sentence about my grades.

yes, they were brought up by the interviewers at every interview, although at all but one it was something along the line of "we understand about the grades" or "you should know that we're not too worried about the grades".

i did well in premed classes more recently than i got my bad grades, took a long time to get through undergrad, and am taking a year off while applying. my app is unusually strong on leadership and service and fairly solid on research.

C's in:

Spanish III
Genetics
Physics I
Gen Chem I
Biostatistics
Calculus I
Gen Chem Lab

7 C's & got into 4 schools.

Grades rarely mentioned & didn't bring it up in the essay.

Undergrad BCPM gpa: 2.87 (mostly C's and C+'s with a smattering of better ones)

offered interview 14/15 attended 7
accepted by 3 schools so far.

a post bac can do wonders.

hi snuffles 😍 😍

you know what's wierd? I actually did ok in my engineering classes. It's orgo that killed me 😡

Hey snuffles, do you have MLK & inaguration day off? Or do you stil have lab?

Hrmm... 4 C's (handful of B-'s too) 3.3 GPA - science was about a 3.2

Intro to CS
Intro to Bio 1
Intro to Bio 2
Intro to Physics

32 MCAT

Got into two schools so far.

SMP too does wonders.

I'm not even taking classes now. So I hope that they're off. But I'm in and out of lab. God I'm lazy. Doing those '**** update letters. 😡

let's plaaayy.

handful of B-'s. Muhahaha, I'd say that's pretty much my transcript. A's are endangered species.

Seems like the C's don't hurt that much, it is the D's that may keep someone out. Anyone have more than 1 D?

I'm in exactly the same boat but I've gotten NO interviews so far! I did two years of post-bacc work - virtually all the pre-reqs - and have a 3.87 but still nothing! I have even been told by many advisors that my ec's are awesome (7 years of clinical work, 3 years running a non-profit w/50 employees, president of student org...) with the exception of my lack of substantial research. I DON'T GET IT!!! Did I apply to too many schools (50)? I did so because of my low undergrad GPA but could that be hurting me now??

Do you mind sharing some more of your stats/info so that maybe I can figure out what's going wrong for me?!?
😕

I know they consider the entire applicant, but your EC's sound tremendous. I will say that I had a good day on MCAT day.. 39R My main differentiating elements were:

Captain of College Fencing Team,
Graduate work in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution
Interpreter in Chinese Trad. Medicine Hospital
2 years lab research w/ one pub.
Wilderness First Responder work

I am sure it was this combo that helped me so much. I don't think that 50 is too many, if, with your post bac, your GPA was still on the low side. My post-bac tremendously improved my science GPA.

1 F
1 D
>4 Cs (I don't remember how many)

Currently an MS1

I got one C.. maybe it was a C+ I dont' remember. in the 3rd quarter of organic chemistry. It was only brought up at Temple but I had a good explanation... I took it a full year from when I took the first two quarters of orgo and therefore had trouble keeping up.

I've gotten into 3 MD programs so far.
