I am currently deciding between two vet schools and was wondering if any current KSU students would mind telling me what your typical day is like. Do you get any hands on experience or is that available? Are you mostly in lectures, are you finding time to de stress?? Do you find the weather in the winter to be depressing? Any information on what KSU is like day to day is greatly appreciated!!!

Thank You!!!!

I am a first year at KState, and I love it here.
We do spend most of our time in the classroom, but there are opportunities to get hands-on if you look for them. First years are set up with seniors that they can shadow if they want to during their free time, and even if you choose not to shadow your senior, you can pretty much roam the hospital. There are also plenty of positions for ICU, LA, and Equine night shifts or programs where you get called in for emergencies.
We have class in the morning and labs in the afternoon (for the most part) and tests on Fridays. This testing setup is nice because the tests rarely pile up, and you know what to expect. Also, unless you take a Friday afternoon elective, you can have Friday afternoons off!
Weather in the winter is depressing anywhere, I think, but the winter is much shorter here than I was expecting, and not overwhelming at all.
I think the thing that made me choose KState was the people. Everyone is SO friendly, and the school made me feel like I, as a student, was important to them. Other schools didn't give me that vibe, and seemed almost to think that the students were a tool to make them look better.
Hope this helps.

Ditto to what mematt said. I'm also a current 1st year at KSU and I love it it. I'm originally from Northeast Ohio and was a little hesitant about coming out "west" to Kansas. Kansas and KSU CVM have surpassed my expectations. My boyfriend moved out here with me and was able to find a job without too much hassle. Winters are much more mild than I'm used to, but the summers are certainly hotter. The people here are very welcoming and there's a great support system here. My advice to people trying to decide where to go has always been to go with where their heart tells them. If that doesn't help, then look at how much it costs. Good luck!
