So I'm in a good problem right now where I can effectively decide what MCAT I want to take. I'm a rising sophomore, but by this January, I'll have completed all of Gen Bio, chem, orgo, and physics because of being able to get into a faster paced chem sequence which allowed me to take gen chem 1 & 2 in one semester.

Now I have something along the lines of 6 months, with classes, to prepare for the latest possible MCAT on January 23rd. My question is, since I'm not rushing anything, and because I'll have the material extremely fresh in my mind from doing it, thereby studying for the MCAT and the class, should I take the current MCAT for admission into the Fall of 2017 class? Also, do I need Biochem for the current MCAT?

You don't need biochem for the current MCAT.

Take the current test. You may do extremely well on it. If you don't, you can always try again with 2015.

If you skip taking this one and don't do well when you take 2015, you will be miserable and kick yourself for it.

DO spend some time studying for the test, though. It isn't just about knowing the material... it is about figuring out what the questions are really asking. MCAT is tricky. It is really a test of critical thinking, that just happens to require a broad basis of science knowledge. Taking a few practice tests will help you learn how to think about that material in the same ways that the question writers did. Once you can do that, you can answer more easily and with more confidence.

You will need biochem for MCAT 2015 for sure and it would help a lot for the current MCAT. Just remember that for biochemistry understanding the concepts and their interrelations are much more important than memorizing every facts.

I think I'm going Lt be taking the new MCAT because some of the schools that I want to apply to said they the will not accept the current MCAT for the 2016 cycle.

Although some select schools may choose to do that, please do know that the vast majority will be accepting this old MCAT for the next 2-3 years. It seems like the higher tier schools want the last date for this old MCAT by September 12th, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. Just an observation.

Well, I called their admission's office to find out how old they accept. Check pre-allo for the spreadsheet that has which mcat will be accepted.

Can you link this for me? I'm in a similar situation and I can't find the spreadsheet.

Yeah, I had a chance to apply in the 2015 cycle, but It wasn't the most advantageous for me. Good luck to you too.
