Hi y’all I was recently accepted into Cornell Vet but had some questions about PBL, the culture, life in Ithaca, post grad jobs, etc. Unfortunately, I’m from CA and can’t attend the info session so was wondering if I could talk with anyone about their experience?

I'd be happy to chat with you! I'm a current second year student here. Do you have particular questions you want to ask on the thread or would you prefer a PM conversation?

Hello, may I ask what is the schedule for orientation week? A week seems lengthy. Is it fun things or mainly study/school related.

Oh I honestly don't remember since it was three years ago. I looked back at my calendar and orientation started on a Thursday and classes started on the following Monday, but I'm not sure if orientation continued through the weekend or not. I just remember we had a fun outdoor class bonding/teamwork building event, a scavenger hunt through the school, and some talks about how to prepare for vet school and what to expect. Are you accepted and planning on attending?

thank you...and yes.

any words of wisdom?
I'm sorry, I've been very busy during clinics and missed this message!

Vet school is very challenging - and at times, it seems Cornell especially. There will likely be many times you question how you're going to get through it or why you're doing it in the first place. Just remember, vet school isn't a reflection of what it's like to be a vet - this is just what you have to get through to make it to the other side (but learn things along the way!). You'll make it through this.

And a word about grades - I know up until this point in your life, you've basically had to ace everything to get where you want to go. In vet school, unless you're planning on specializing and need good grades for your internship, remember that Cs get degrees. I'm not saying don't work hard - I'm saying don't panic if your grades aren't as stellar as they used to be, because they won't be. Participate in electives, make free time to go outside and do what makes you happy. It's really important for your wellbeing and you'll burn yourself out very fast without it.
