Hey current Temple students, I just wanted to know if you would reccommend a tablet PC for school? I cant remember where, but I saw that they were recommended. Is that still the case? Or would a regular laptop be fine?

Thanks a bunch

Granted, I've been outta Kresge for a while, but Tablet PCs? The only time I saw a Tablet PC in class was when it was used by a professor (Dr. Marino, for Lara, Phlly, and my other classmates).

so...this is totally unrelated, but I was wondering if someone could say something about the matching at Temple. Looking at the matches made me kind of nervous because it didn't seem like people match to that great programs. I was specifically looking at Neurology and was totally unimpressed.

simone...

I don't have a copy of Temple's Match list in front of me at this very moment so these are just a few highlights I recall, but I'm curious- with Medicine matches at UCSF, MGH, Cornell, etc. Surgery at UVA, U of W, And top Surgical Subspecialty matches- what are you so unimpressed by?? (Penn Urology, Jefferson Urology, UPITT Ortho, Derm Vanderbilt).

As for Neurology, students at temple complete their neurology rotation during the fourth year (Many schools complete this rotation during the third year). This year there were quite a few matches at institutions with great reputations (Yale, Brown).

Not exactly sure what you are unimpressed by...

no tablet pc. yes laptop.

also

I don't see what is unimpressive about match lists at temple, especially if you look at them over more than one year...

for instance... I thought last year's anesthesia match was much better than this years, but that doesn't mean i am suddently worried about my chances. keep in mind that not everybody goes for the top programs, even if the could get into them- especially with classes with more non traditional students, you have spouses' careers/ families to take into account...

agreed with nutmegs, uss, bagerdoc...

The match list at temple is strong, you can not deny it. I haven't seen this year's anywhere on SDN yet. But speaking for Medicine, we sent people to MGH, UCSF, Beth Israel, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Loma Linda, Dartmouth off the top of my head. All strong matches for sure. And temple keeps tons of their own in Medicine, and after doing your medicine rotation at Temple, you will def. see how amazing an opportunity that actually is.

again, this is changing the subject from computers.

i am trying to figure out where to live this coming year. i definitely want to live in the city, since i am a big fan of pedestrianism and public transport (in other words: i suck at driving). plus, having grown up in nyc i feel isolated and understimulated outside of an urban area.

i heard that the art museum neighborhood is popular. do a lot of students live in the more central part of philly?

any suggestions for neighborhoods, streets, even buildings would be really helpful. if you could explain your preferences, that would be a plus.

thanks.

most first years live out towards the roxborough/manayunk/east falls area. I live in east falls and LOVE it (it's definitely not "outside of an urban area") but it does require a car because the train goes to temple main campus, not health science campus.

second year, a lot more people move downtown. I have friends that live in the packer building on broad st (way more than I would pay...), 1500 locust, and then a variety of apartments on pine and spruce streets (13-1400 blocks). I would stick somewhere close to the broad st subway line if you're going to do downtown as this is the transportation you will take. the people I know that live in the art museum area have cars.

Center city along pine/spruce/lombard tends to be reasonably priced, esp if you are willing to invest a bit of time in the search. I've lived at between 9th and 10th on Pine all 3 yrs thus far, and it is really only 4 block walk to the Broad St line. My rent has only marginally increased during this time, as well, which is not necessarily congruent with the rest of Philly, where rates have skyrocketed of late.

Also, if you know anyone who would be a good roommate, this can seriously improve costs in CC.

thanks guys for all of your help.

do you have any ideas for how to find an apartment in said areas, other than craigslist?
