Could you tell me how you feel about your program and how your experience has been thus far? Are you happy with your choice? Is there anything I should know as an incoming student?

I'm assuming you're going there? May I ask you why you chose UIW and what other choices you had? I have an interview there in 2 wks.

I'm also wondering about UIW too. I'll be applying this summer, and I'm definitely considering applying to UIW. The only aspect of it that I'm worried about is religion. I understand that it's a Catholic university, but is there a large focus on religion in the curriculum or during class?

I have an interview at UIWSO coming up as well. Any advice on what to expect outside of what's already posted in the interview feedback? (in other words how did you personally like the school? do they do an essay when you get there like other schools do and anything else about what to expect for the interview would be helpful)
Thanks!

This was my first interview and I have not made my decision quite yet. I did have a good impression from the faculty. Everyone is very supportive and they definitely care about you as a student. I think the faith aspect contributes to this. The school basically emphasizes servitude and helping others. It's not neccessary to be catholic. Currently only one clinic is open; the one on campus, but the other clinic is going to be in east san Antonio i think, and supposedly there are only 2 optometrists there for all the thousands and thousands of people living there. It is an underserved area which will give students the opportunity to see alot of disease and interesting cases. This is a plus to me, because I've heard some students from other schools complain about not having enough patients in their clinics. The cost of living in san Antonio is really cheap yet it's the 7th largest city in the us. The faculty there are all well established and from other schools so they know what they are doing. The optometry school is detached from the actual main campus and it really leaves alot to be desired, but the main campus is nice.

I had an interview at UIW at the beginning of this month. The interview was closed, all they had was my personal essay. I was personally blown away from what this school has to offer, especially since it is a new school. I had an amazing time and the faculty and staff were so helpful. They treat you like family and I love this about them. I was accepted 4 days after my interview. I most likely will be attending UIWSO (known as RSO now) this fall 2011. Hope this helps!

OMG!! only 2 optometrists in east San Antonio

What kind of information are they feeding you? Do you seriously believe San Antonio is underserved?

I apologize but I didn't read anybody's posts, and just thought I would give a little bit to entice you to ask specific questions if you are headed there. but here are a couple things you SHOULD know that they won't tell you before you head there...

Okay, for all those seeking info about UIWSO...I was a student there just last fall. So I attended 1 semester and was dismissed. At least one thing you should know going in is that after a test you will never see your actual test again. you may see the key, but not the one that you wrote on during the test. That is just the way they do it. Grades are posted for tests after only a minimum of a week. Sometimes we would take a test, then wait two weeks, get our grades posted online, and then have one week before our next test in that course. There are numerous things that I would change about the school and I gave them recommendations but if I had the option of going somewhere else, I would do it.

I was in the second class there. They still haven't graduated a class. Which means every year they change something about the program and you can't do anything about it. The second years were always telling us that things were completely different for us than it was for them. And that was only one year difference. Any other questions you can direct my way. I have lots of time and notes from when I was there.

JonTheMac, when you say you were dismissed was that your decision or the schools? I'm just wondering because if it was the school I didnt know they could do that
