Current Upper Year PCOMer Help!

Hi, I am currently a first year DO student in good standing, and due to various reasons, I am thinking of transfering into PCOM either 2nd or 3rd year. I just realized if I transfer for 2nd yr, I will need to make up the Cardiology course, which is not something I would love to do. Then transfer into 3rd yr seems more logical. However, I am wondering how the rotation sites are assigned, and if I transfer at the end of the 2nd yr, does that mean all the good sites are picked? Also, can someone enlighten me the hospitals around that is affliated with PCOM, such as the quality?

um. i no of 0 med students who have transferred... not to say it doesnt happen, but i'd imagine its only for extenuating circumstances and i imagine its very very difficult

I had a friend transfer first year TO georgetown med and a friend second year transfer TO SUNY med, but am not aware of anyone atleast in my class transfering in from another institution. With that being said, we do lose some students first year for various reasons and I'm sure if you meet their qualifications they wouldn't mind another student's tuition dollars...but again not sure how they work this.

You may have read this already, but this is from PCOM's website:

Transfer Students​

PCOM does not routinely accept transfer students; however, a transfer
application may be considered under extenuating circumstances and depending on places available in the class. Consideration will be given only to a student who is in good standing at an AOA-accredited college of osteopathic medicine or who is eligible for re-admission to the previously attended college of osteopathicmedicine.

The initial request for transfer must originate from the dean of the college or university from which the student wishes to transfer and must be directed to the dean of the PCOM campus to which he or she is applying. Application materials must be submitted and a formal interview with the Faculty Committee on Admissions will be required. If accepted, a transfer student will be given credit for courses successfully passed at the previous college that meet PCOM’s curriculum requirements. A minimum
of two years must be completed at PCOM for a student to be eligible to receive the DO degree.​
