Hello everyone,
I'm a soon to be an MSIV going into gas. I was wondering if anyone knows of cush, fairly "easy" (or at least non-malignant), medicine preliminary programs in the NYC or Miami area.

being from miami and now training in nyc maybe can offer some help - asfar as miami then any program is more cush than NYC programs maybe except UM - in nyc - transitionals are pretty easy - such a sSt Vincents which is super hard to get in - and New York Hospital of Queens has a relatively easy transitional program - except for 6 months where u will be doing 3 months of IM and 3 months of Surg and u can squeeze in Peds for 1 of those 3 mths in either block - but u shouldnt be looking for cush and i know u think im nuts but go to a program with good clinical exposure - will make u a better gas man or woman

Thanks docmus12 - that was very helpful. Are you familiar with UM prelim program? What's it like?
As for not looking for something cush, you make a good point. However, working at a large public hospital affiliated with a major univesity in NYC (hint), I realized that despite great clinical exposure and a very didactic program, interns are so overwhelmed by a large patient load and scut that they rarely have the opportunity to take advantage of what the program has to offer. They often miss lectures and report feeling so tired and overworked that reading/studying outside of the hospital is impossible. In other words, it seems to me that a high patient load and good clinical exposure does not necessary correlate with a good learining experience.

What you should be looking for is a well balanced program, not a cush one. You need to be busy enough that you get to see a lot. Besides any program that is cush in NYC is going to be super competitve b/c all the rads, derm, & optho folks are going to want it.
