Customers who expect meds to be free

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I work in a neighborhood of mostly Medicaid patient that this sums up most my day. I literally have someone coming in on a daily basis arguing that their medication is covered and we are scamming them because they got a free sample at the doctors office so if they can get it there free, they can get it from the pharmacy free. This is how I learned about the existence of Cequa in the past 2 days....

"It is covered if the doctor's office does their job and submits the paperwork to the Medicaid plan"

This is why health insurance is a misnomer especially for Medicaid recipients and those w/ chronic conditions. It's a massive subsidy and as the population gets older, larger and sicker costs inevitably spiral out of control

Oh dear lord those meds that need PA. Also get those once every few days where I tell them it isn't covered and they say the doctor office said they did a PA. When I asked them when, "just before I left the office". :bang:

From a doc, I can't imagine the nuisance of this for you all. While I generally try to know what is covered or not for the most common things I write, I never really have to deal with it standing at a counter with the meds in my hand while the patient sees me holding them for money. It's a crappy spot you all are in, sorry

“I’m sorry, but I need the money to hand out meds”
Oh dear lord, a patient tried to argue with us saying we are greedy money grubbing parasites because their insurance company is paying thousands of dollars for her brand name drugs to us already and we are still charging her copay. Apparently she thinks we get the medications for free and refuses to believe otherwise. Arguing her doctor visit doesn't even charge money so why are we charging money.

contract for insurance says copay 80/20. Speak to insurance

Most the plans here are patients have to pay a flat $15 for brand names. The only problem with brand name drugs is that especially with diabetes brand name drugs, after accepting that $15 copay, we only make about 30 cents~ each fill taking into account ordering price for the drug. This minor profit turns negative if we add it brand name rebates but subtract transaction fees, brand name ordering free and whatever shenanigan fees we independents have to deal with.

Sad times to not be corporate pharmact

And some pharmacists/students think we should charge for our "services" when customers won't even pay for their meds.

When people are on public assistance their whole lives of course they think it's a "right." Single moms with 5 kids all with different last names, whole families on psych meds (adults and children). People complaining about extra help copays because "they never had to pay anything before" ("before" = their whole lives)

Right to everything. Free healthcare, free studen loans..

Free groceries, free rent.

Whoops already mentioned above.

I know someone who got $500/mo for his EBT card. He said he only used half of it and offered to sell me $250/mo at 50% off.

I know a lot of my techs buy those EBT cards for 50% off. They buy grocery and stock up at 50% off.

The worst of all is when someone says:

“My doctors office said that my insurance should cover it 100%”

Then they proceed to pucker their lips and say something along the lines of how we need to get our **** together, then sigh really loud, and pick up their purse (that smells like someone ate a whole bunch of leather and then took a leathery dump), and stomp off..

Am I rite’?

In my experience they're usually at the drive thru inside a car nicer than mine with a Starbucks Frapouchino in one hand and the latest iPhone in the other.

Yea I was a pic at a very heavily poverty stricken community. Likely 80% medicaid with the other 20% wealthy retirees.

That’s an interesting contrast.. Do their purses smell like rhinoceros a$$ too?
