OK here is my situation. I applied during last years cycle and one of the schools I applied to, UDM, allowed extra LOR's beyond AADSAS. This was summer '09 and I had interned in a dental office through school which ended in August, so I had this dentist write a customized LOR and send it directly to UDM as my AADSAS app was already mailed. Needless to say, I didn't make it last year so here I am again. So I petitioned this same dentist to resubmit the letter because it was REALLY good and I could count on it. To make a long story short, after applying this year, it came to my attention that the secretary (this dentist uses her secretary as her personal assistant) submitted THE EXACT SAME LETTER, NO EDITING WHATSOEVER. That is, the letter is UDM customized (I didn't apply to UDM this year to boot) and the date is July 2009. However, the body of the letter is awesome. How good/bad will this letter affect my app? I am really curios to hear what you guys think.

AADSAS states that you should not customize personalize personal statement/lor etc. Imagine if you were on the adcom (school pride and all), and you read a REC directed to another school. I would feel INCLINED to reject that applicant and tell him to just go to that other school. (as stated on the LOR) It's sorta like a slap in the face for the reader. If you can I would ask to take the LOR back; however, I dunno if you can now. Not trying to discourage you, but these are professionals you're dealing with. Anyone else have some input?

I think schools may forgive you for this mistake, they go through thousands of applications and i bet this type of thing happens often. Regardless, this is not YOUR mistake, it's your recommendation writer's mistake. Also, regardless of where this letter is addressed to, your personal qualities don't change!

if you can take the LOR out, then do that, if not, just wait it out and see what happens
