Hi. I am beginning a fellowship this summer, for one year, and am currently applying for jobs for when I finish fellowship.

My question to you is this- is it appropriate to put the fellowship on my CV at all, and if so, how would you list something that is going to happen in the future? Should I just mention it in my cover letter?

Cytopathology Fellowship Should have taken a job Hosptial 2009-2010

Just put it on there with the start and end dates in the same format you have for your residency... Most people will figure out what those dates mean...(and it explains that it is a one year fellowship)

You can mention it in your cover letter too...

"After completing my fabulous fellowship at "Should have taken a job Hospital", I will be an excellent asset to your CV file!"

I would list your training section as "Current and future training" and then include the future fellowship in there. I would definitely include it. You would be silly not to unless you don't want to use that fellowship in your job.

I listed it as "XYZ Fellowship (anticipated)" and then the dates. Just like with the "Date Degree Conferred:" portion of residency applications when I was waiting to graduate med school.

I wouldn't even put anticipated, if you have a letter of intent. You have the spot, you are going, and you will be done one year later...

It is not even like medical school... You don't have to graduate from a fellowship (I mean you do, but... it isn't like medical school).
