I haven't seen this topic discussed anywhere else, so I'll start one here. In my infinite wisdom, I declined to attend any of my school's optional CV workshops. Now, I find myself doing rotations 2,000 miles away from my school, so it's obviously too late to get advice from them. Does anyone here know of a good resource (book, web, etc.) for recommendations on writing a medical CV?

Try googling "CV" and "sample" or "Example". That's where I found most of my info. Or ask here and some people (like me) may be willing to critque it. Also, ask your attendings where you are.

"First AId for the Match" also provides some good samples. In addition, many schools will have CVs for their faculty on-line; that would provide you with a good (if not daunting) sample.

Once you have a working copy, let your friends read and critique it. Tell them you want honest feedback, so that it actually improves. Don't take it personally. Then find a cool faculty member to look it over (preferably someone who you won't actually be submitting it to later on). I found that my CV and cover letter/personal type of statements always improve the most by getting feedback from other people.

The good and bad thing about CVs is that there's no real standard. So while it doesn't matter if your format and even content differs somewhat, it's also really hard to find specific guidelines. My advice, if you have an advisor, get your advisor to edit it.
