Hi,

This sample CV sent to program chairmans was included in our medical school handout for those applying to competitive research programs. It is from a graduated MS4 student’s ABSTRACTS/ORAL PRESERNATIONS section of his CV who matched into top programs and is basically our guide to CV formatting.

Does anyone know why this student (name changed for confidentiality) did not bold his names certain places? Is it because he was a significant author who contributed to the research but did not present?

7. Pablo ED, Bob, SZ. Surgical interventions for sinus sinus. Oral presentation: Berkeley Grand Rounds. June 28 2015. Berkeley, CA.

8. Pablo ED, Bob, AJ. A case of Herpes. December, 3 2009. Berkely, CA.

9. Pablo ED, Bob BR. A case of syphilis. Oral presentation: Darthmouth Dermatology Grand Rounds. January 28, 2008. Berkely, CA.

10. Pablo ED, Cassidy JB. A case of AIDS. Oral presentation: San Francisco Rounds.

The bolding is irrelevant, except to just draw attention to the reader's eyes. The author placement (first, last, middle) is what counts. If they listed themselves as first author for a presentation, that means they were the presenter.

Hi,

Honestly? I think he forgot to bold them. Usually the bolding is to allow the reader to quickly find your name.

Agree with @Evergrey. It appears to be an error/typo because there is no logical reason the individual's name would be highlighted in bold print for Item nos. 10 and 11.

I was curious: did you type the cv verbatim into this post (with the exception of using actual student names)? Reason: There are other omissions and errors in that section of the cv. In other words, when you prepare your own cv, make sure you carefully review it (spelling, grammar, location, date, etc.) for accuracy - so that your cv does not include similar typos/errors and omissions.

Thank you.
