Hi! I'm applying to peds residencies this year, and I was just working on my CV. I have a lot of experience working with children back in grade school and in college, but nothing during medical school. Is that bad? Can I still mention the work I did back in high school? Or does everything on the CV have to be about medical school, because honestly, I didn't have much time for extra curriculars?

Another question, off topic, do pedi residents really work 70-80 hours a week? Don't they get burnt out??

My understanding is that the CV is supposed to be mostly your medical school and undergrad/graduate school experiences. I'm not too sure there's a role for your grade school and high school work in your CV, however, they may be nice things to tie into your personal statement.

as far as the work hours, nearly every field works those hours, it's part of being a resident, (maybe not derm or path (where i trained), but they are still in the 60s...) and i think everyone goes through phases of being burnt out. In a way, I think it's natural, you are constantly trying so hard to learn and work, it should be tiring. It's important to keep a balance in your life, whether that's a hobby or working out or whatever...

Oh dear god, do not go back past college. DO NOT. That is the most annoying thing to see on an application is where someone graduated in their high school class, or that they were in national honor society.

Just list college stuff and beyond.
