Hey guys,

I'm applying for a student position in an EM research study that is happening this summer, and the Emergency Physician in charge wants me to send a CV...but I've never actually completed one of these. As an undergrad, I don't have any publications, only have half my bachelor's degree finished, and in general don't know what I could put on it. I don't really know what he expects to see on it, but I don't think it should matter because I know a great deal about the background behind the study being done, and I would be fully capable of doing this job. Any suggestions on what I could add to this CV?

I would really love to have this position, and I know I could do it, but I just think that he's going to see a relatively blank CV and become disinterested in me, even though I personally know I would do an excellent job. 😕

I worked for a year between undergrad and med school at a biotech company. In any scientific or academic area people always ask for a CV instead of a resume. In your case it doesn't seem like they are trying to find the new chairman of surgery...they just want a research tech that can do legwork. Don't freak out too much about it...most of the time people just ask for a CV that so they have a piece of paper in front of them that reminds them who you are and how to get in touch with you.

A CV is just a more academic resume. I would focus on your undergrad education. Mention specific classes and your accomplishments in those classes like "group leader of project X investigating Y". Keep it to 1 page only. You can include work experiences, special training and skills too, just that they go after the undergrad experiences. Since you are so excited I would include a cover letter that basically expresses your great interest in the project and your knowledge about the background. Keep the actual CV though to 1 page ONLY.

Good luck, I'm sure that it will turn out well. 😎

Cool...I sent off the CV but it actually came to two pages. I didn't mention specific classes but just explained what my major was, included my certifications (eg. EMT-B, ACLS training), and now I'm hoping for the best. Thanks for the help. :luck:
