I have pharmacist friends who work for Universal American, a medicare PDP,..Community CCRX, Today's Options, etc. As of Dec. 31, CVS Caremark bought the Part D business. What is your opinion on what may happen? Layoffs, moving business to Woonsocket, etc. My friends are very nervous they will lose job. Thanks for any replies.

To my knowledge, CVS rarely lay off people. Also, moving the business to Woonsocket defeats the purpose of buying Universal. Based on CVS history, CVS is a good company because of its acquisitions. They know how to acquire and merge companies so there is synergy. If there is inefficiency at Universal American, yes... there might be layoffs. However for the most part, firing half the company you just brought is not a good way to merge the company.

just curious...what kind of benefits have you seen so far working for cvs?

Most CVSs near me are overworked and understaffed and full of miserable pharmacists. Every time I call for a copy they complain about the workload, and the new computer system, and the lack of techs, and how district mgmt sux, and.....😡

The best benefit that I have seen so far is 401k and stock options. I get 100 percent match for the first 5 percent that I contribute to my 401k. This was while other companies (walgreen) were cutting down. In addition, I also get free stock options for every 2 years that I work.

Another awesome perk is unlimited sick days... which you actually get to take advantage of now because of all the floaters looking for hours.

The compensation is there. They just make you work for it.

So why does anyone ever come in to work?

So why does anyone ever come in to work?

Because the DM gives you a bunch of crap and subtly mentions how other people are looking for hours and the need to change some FT people to floaters or PT. Basically they try to heckle you into coming in sick with H1N1 with non-specific threats of making sure you don't get promoted, requested vacation dates during the year, etc.. This is true for most chains, for what I hear, so no ill will towards CVS.

So yeah, they have ways of making you come in if they want to. But at the same time if a DM knows you are truly sick then they don't hold it against you if a store manager says something as well, etc.
