Hi, I have a question for those of you working for CVS. I've called CVS twice in the past week for a transfer. On both occassions the tech told me to call back because the pharmacist was eating lunch. Is CVS allowing breaks for pharmacists now?

Well I dont think its like a logged lunch in the books or anything like that...

but I know the way my pharmacists do it at the CVS I work at is just... "Hey, im gonna go in the break room and eat my lunch... push all the waiters to half an hour."

and of course if anyone needs counseling he/she will come out of the break room.

on a side note: I do see a sign (thats never used) lying around in the pharmacy that says something like, "Pharmacy is closed for pharmacist lunch" or something to that degree.

As the transfering pharmacist I would call back later. If the pt is still in the store, I would tell the patient that their pharmacy is busy and the rx can't be transfered at this time and for them to check back later or come tomorrow if its not an emergency. Otherwise they can sit and wait until we got the transfer and filled it.

Its nice to allow the pharmacist time to eat lunch. Wouldn't you want the same thing?

Busty, I agree pharmacists should be allowed a lunch break. I was just used to CVS pharmacists not having a break.

Some states require a lunch break.....

I'm allowed to transfer except for controlled drugs......

Probably not, but who the **** cares. Kudos to the tech for standing up for the pharmacist, and kudos to the pharmacist for taking a break.

We've been told no to the pharmacists taking a break, even though we have a state law stating breaks must be taken on a shift > 6 hrs. I guess there is some loophole or CVS would've been in trouble by now. Same goes for us techs, but I have had maybe one break in my last 20 shifts as most shifts I eat on my feet while working.

We close down 1:30pm to 2:00pm every day for lunch. The phones get shut off and the pharmacist is allowed to leave the scene, just not the building

In california, it is required that the pharmacy closes for 30 mins for lunch if there is only one pharmacist on duty.

Is this for real? I'm probably transferring to Cali to work for CVS. If you get 30 min for lunch, I'd be so happy.

I was in a WalMart the other day and there was a permanent sign outside the pharmacy saying "Pharmacy will be closed daily from 12-12:30 for pharmacist lunch" or something like that. Thought of this thread.

Pshht, what are you gonna do with 1/2 hour? Can't even go out to a decent restaurant and sit down and have a decent meal in that time.
