I am a new hire at CVS, have been working there for 3 weeks now and I literally get knots in my stomach before going to work because there is so much that I don't know how to do and my coworkers get really frustrated with me because they expect me to learn quickly. Anyways, can someone please explain what I need to do in these situations:

A.) If another CVS calls me to transfer a prescription to their pharmacy? I'm confused about the rules like if it's on hold or something then you have to print the rx out? But what if it's not on hold? The. What do I do? And when do I use the Transfer In and Transfer Out options on the screen?

B.) If someone drops off a prescription and I realize it is out-of-stock... how do I add it to the next day's order and how to add it to QI? There are two ways of doing this right?

Thank you!!

A) when another store calls for a transfer that's on hold print the hard copy and fax it to them and but in the sig area tran to store XXXX (store number). If it's not on hold and active then the should be able to pull it Directly through the computer.

B) in qp scan the label and if it's oos then hit o then 2, for out of stock and call patient to inform them and put it in for a time the following day. At my store we use 555pm as code. Then it will go to qi screen

How did you get a pharmacy tech job at CVS? Did you know someone or did you simply fill out the online application? How long did they take to call you for an interview? Are you a certified pharmacy tech? @MissOconnor @Bammy

I did my externship with CVS and was hired immediately once I got licensed. Yes I am certified as a tech but that is not a requirement here in California. Alot of CVS'S in my area are hiring for techs all you need to complete is the online application and be persistent with the pharmacy manager at the location that you are interested in. Pm me if you have any other questions

I;m sorry you're having a tough time with CVS. CVS ingeneral has the steepest learning curve out of all retail pharmacies. I know how you feel since I felt that way when I was first hired. I would suggest finding a store with a "nicer" tech who doesn't mind showing you the ropes. I know it's def easier said than done but I had to learn everything on my own basically from observiing and messing with the system during down time. But once you get the hang of it it's really not bad. I will tell you this, if you can handle CVS, you can handle ALL retail pharmacies.
