I have been working for CVS for a good amount of time because I really enjoyed my team. As the years gone by my PM has become a micromanaging witch. She’s even had a personal break down during her shift when she was chewed out for not being on a second conference call. She talks to us like dogs now and today was my final straw when she lied to me about how she scheduled my lunch. She scheduled me for 9:30am and hand wrote in 4-4:30pm lunch and my shift ends at 6:30. The pharmacist switches shifts even before I was allowed to go to lunch. I brought it up to her and she said that was wrong and doesn’t know why she even wrote that and told me to go on my break. Then as I was walking out she asked did I punch out? If not, punch out at 4 because that’s when she’ll be 87 percent optimized. She basically lied to me saying she didn’t know, but she did. I really want to know how to handle this because I am really upset. Not only have I mentioned I don’t want shifts more than 8 hours, she doesn’t allow us to even take our 10-15min breaks that we’re allowed during long shifts like that!

Should I quit? How does transfers work? I’m under the impression if she won’t approve it, i’m not able too. That’s what shes said and I don’t want to on call HR or get ethics line involved. I understand her stress level, but the work environment she’s creating is beginnings to be hostile. A bad survey our phone blows up with text messages that it makes me cringe.

I wish I had time to take break(s). People already complain when I take a mandatory lunch.

I'm pretty sure s/he is a technician (s/he mentions the pharmacist shift changes before s/he gets to go to lunch.)

So yes, as an hourly wage earner, I'm pretty sure her/his PM (whatever that is) is breaking the law be not allowing him/her to take lunch and breaks.

you're right, he/she did mention that.

yeah you are allow to take break/lunch

might want to discuss it with your pharmacist but do plan ahead at a time where its least busy of that period of time.

I’m guessing PM = Pharmacy Manager
Not 100% sure, but seems to fit

You may need to contact your district leader (the PM's boss).....if you not met this person then go into the store email and I'm sure you will find an email from them with their contact information about it. Tell them what is going on and they should be able to take it from there....

You can’t blame the PM but it’s the law. Schedule optimization is complete BS. Theres probably stories of PM’s all over the country stressing over it, line out the door but telling staff to clock out since optimization says so.

Clock out when you take your lunch, not when your manager tells you to. You can get fired for working off the clock.

Did CVS change optimization? In my day it was how you wrote the schedule, not how people actually clocked in and out. They change it?
Yeah, they changed it this year. It goes off when people clock in/out and its also one of the main things measured in your overall score. So Mypatientcare, Mycustomer, community responsibility, and now "Optimization" is one of those categories so its worth 10% or something like that.

Lunches affect optimization? I was told it didn't matter when techs take their lunch as long as they take one.

Yes lunches matter. If myschedule says you need 4 people up until 1215pm and then 3 from say 1215-1 you should have someone clock out during that time to get a higher percentage.

Thanks for the update.

Well this sounds utterly ridiculous (the optimization thing, not you OP)
Yup, call out screw you as well. Basically the company is doing more and more to limit bonuses. Last years card was the easiest i’ve seen. Getting above a 4.0 could be done with eyes closed. I did my Staff pharm review and my staff is getting a little over 6k in Bonus. My review as PM is early next month. Hoping to crack a 10k bonus but we’ll see. I’m at busy store we are now consistently around 36-3900 on KMI.

Is that with 90 day = 3 Rx? I've only seen those kinds of numbers on the daily flash report for this CVS in eastern MA that sold 900-1000/day or a few 24h ones in Phoenix (or my first store that did 3500/week). There are a few WM in Kentucky that sell 15k/month

They count it as 90 day = 1 rx for script count. I've worked at two stores in Orange county that do 3400+. Both were open until midnight on weekdays. One is consistently 4k+ now was like 5-6 percent over script budget = fatty bonus. Optimization isn't hard. It's just making sure your staff clocks in and out properly and having backup bodies in case you do have a call out. That's why gotta optimize to 89 and hope they don't screw up past 85.

Are you sure about 90 days = 1 rx? I was still under the impression 90 days = 3 rx still. Any other current CVS PIC can chime in?

At my last district meeting, the DL said 90d = 3 rx.

"that’s when she’ll be 87 percent optimized"

Can you check the back of her neck to see if there is a plug or some kind of electric socket?

I'm like 95 percent certain because I have a copy of my region's projected scripts for every store for every week with 90d = 1 rx and 90d = 3 rx. I check KMI weekly for my last two stores and I can tell which number closely resembles the projections.

lol I read this post thinking you were a pharmacist and thought to myself wait, you are complaining working longer than 8 hours and not taking 10mins breaks? but then saw someone say you are a tech and it made a lot more sense haha

but like others said you should clock out when you are supposed to
