Hi all ,
I need some input from all as I am confused between two options. I just recently got two offers from both companies CVs and Walgreens
Walgreens
-hourly pay is less than CVS but they do offer a three year contract with a bonus
- location is out of no where, pretty much no social life . I will have to drive about 4 hrs to main cities
Will be floating for 40hrs/ week ; mostly 8 hrs shifts

CVS
Hourly pay greater than Walgreens but no bonus
One store guaranteed
Longer shifts meaning more days off
Location one hr away from big cities and much more activities going on
I really don't know what to do . Cvs gave me that schedule I wanted and one store ; however I heard so many bad things about CVS that I was skeptical about it . I could potentially take the bonus with Walgreens but will be stucked in a no go area for three years ... Any help will be appreciated . Thank you

why is this even a contemplation? CVS gives you the schedule you want, the pay is higher. They're both shtty companies to work for...so for now...take whichever deal is better...which in this situation CVS wins hands down. The bonus at Walgreens is nothing...i wouldnt' even consider that unless you're RXM at a tier 3+ store.

Thank you for your input . It is just because so many people keep saying CVS is the worst company to work for . I have not worked in retails as you said they probably same as they both retails ..

CVS and Walgreens are basically the same, except CVS is worse for employees. CVS is basically known by pharmacists as the worst retail pharmacy to work for. Here is the latest research from glassdoor (CVS 12th worst company to work for overall; worst retail pharmacy)

http://www.pharmacytimes.com/careers-news/express-scripts-cvs-rank-in-worst-companies-for-workers

dude, you got a pharmD, MBA, and now going for your MD? that's alot of alphabet soup. mad respect tho.

At CVS the RXM makes the schedule (or should) so your schedule should be predictable and you already mentioned the tradeoff with longer shifts (work longer but more days off).

If you can make it at CVS, good. If you can't... well there's always other retail or you can escape retail. Never take a signing bonus because anything can happen (you can find a better job, then what)

Hi!
I'm only P1, but I have some questions about internship and i hope you guys can help answer my questions because I dont know where i should post my question.
I had an internship interview with Walsgreen 2 weeks ago at my school Career fair. They said i would hear back from them after 2 weeks. 2 weeks have passed. Few of my friends got offers already. Some students haven't received any emails. I haven't heard anything yet. Does it mean I am rejected? Does anyone know about the walsgreen internship hiring process?
Thank you very much for reading.

Hey Overseas, if I remember correctly, you're an international student at Texas Tech right? One of my fellow classmates at UT told me that none of the chains (CVS, Wags, Walmart, Kroger) were taking interns that are international students this year (with the exception of HEB). On the other hand, I remember Wags told us that we won't hear back until April so I'm not sure about your scenario.

Thank you for letting me know about it. 🙂
Yes I'm from Tech, but i am a Texas resident. I hope they still select candidates for their spots. ☹

Texas resident as in you get in state tuition or Texas resident as in you're a citizen/permanent resident (green card)? Because I know at least two people who were flat out rejected by those chains despite being a Texas resident just because they were international.

Also, did you not interview with any other company>

Sorry for the confusion. I meant permanent resident.
I also had an interview with Walmart but they told all of the students that we will have to go to their website in March to apply again, and we may or may not have to go through another interview. So, I don't know how Walmart pick their candidates.

Really? Wow I did not know that. Maybe it's different at Tech. How do some of your friends have offers already?

Walsgreen sent them emails and allow them to choose their location already. However some people still doesn't hear anything back from walsgreen. I dont know if it means rejection or not.

Did you like to be a floater? How is your experience whether it is CVS or Walgreens

If you have never worked in retail, there is no way you should take a signing bonus and sign a 3 year contract with Walgreens. Believe me. Take CVS, and if you hate it you have the option to get out without big financial penalty.

CVS is obviously the better offer, and I personally like CVS better than Walgreens anyways. I'd go with CVS.

Wags offer sounds horrible

Really seems like Walgreens is trying to keep you stuck in the middle of nowhere for three years where pharmacists are scarce. I would not sign any kind of contract.

I say this a lot but will say it again. If you are a hard worker and can train your staff you will enjoy your job. All these stores calculate tech hours appropriately. The staff bonus is very small at wag so don't take that offer, the cvs offer is way better.

So outside of retail, where would a pharmacist work? Is it just hospitals?

You have other options, its just that the other areas of pharmacy are a lot harder to land a job as opposed to retail/hospital. You have LTC, Nuclear, Informatics, Industry etc... good luck trying to land a job in one of those areas.
