After this summer of classes, I should have around a 3.6 cGPA after a retake of calc. Other than this grade, I should have a pretty solid app, years of working in a doctor office, research (and possibly a publication), varsity cross country and track, resident assistant, etc. I have ONE other retake from ochem (got a C the first time). How will admissions look at this very poor grade, and furthermore, it being in my junior year! What worries me is I have a slight drop in grades, freshman year 3.7, so 3.6, and now jr year 3.47 (hoping for a 3.6 after retakes) This applies for both MD and DO schools, but I'm prob applying DO and perhaps DPM (shadowed a podiatric surgeon for a few weeks and really liked it). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

DPM your pretty competitive. DO your competitive if you have a 27+ mcat. MD you'll probably need a 33+ on the mcat to be spot on 'competitive' .

Overall I think your application is extremely well done.

Thanks, just hoping the slight downward trend does not hurt me...although I am taking almost all hard sciences. Just hoping to kill the MCAT regardless of whether I go DPM or DO, and that my research and volunteer will carry me through.

Well for DO I think your downward trend will be overlooked since your gpa is high. The research makes you stronger as a candidate too.
For DPM, well its also somewhat like that. Except i'd argue your hyper competitive since the average for DPM schools is like 3.3 + 24 mcat w/little research.

Just kill the MCAT. The rest of your application sounds great. I would hope (since I'm in a similar situation as you with a D in calc) that the rest of your application, with good grades, shadowing, research experience, the dedication and determination you've displayed with athletics, and your campus involvement would be enough of an indicator of your potential and character, that a D in one class shouldn't disqualify you to the person reviewing your application. With a strong MCAT you'll have another standardized measurable for ADCOMs to compare you with, and its just another representation that your full body of work is demonstrative of a good student and potential doctor.

Good luck!

Dude, DO schools dont even count Calc into your sGPA. Thats only for MD schools....your good, but you may have to explain why you got a D during a interview.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I just don't want this one poor grade to be a big red flag, being that I am in my jr year.
