Can a doctor with a D.O work overseas...in say, Africa.

This has been a big deterent for the D.O route for me because I am interested in working in africa. I like everything else about the D.O except this.

does anybody know (with sources if possible)

thanks

Read the Sticky "International Practice" found above

Have full rights in some countries, restricted to OMM in other countries, and have no such rights in others... not sure where Africa falls.

This was discussed just last week, do a search and it should come up.

Keberson, I was under the same impression as you. But it depends on the type of medical work you plan to do. I wanted to things like Doctors without Borders ...and my friend told me that "You're providing free healthcare for those who need it. Why would they not let you?" It made sense, don't know why I didn't think of it.

So...if you plan practice for a living in a foreign country..it may be an issue if your country doesn't acknowledge the DO degree. If you want to do good works, then it shouldn't be a problem.
