My dad owns a business, and things are really slow right now. I'm gonna only beable to take 3 classes per semester for the next 2 years or so (I'll be busy helping him). Will this affect my application come admissions time?

I take that you are at least 2 years away from dental school. If you take only 3 class a semester consistently, it would hurt your chances. Ad Committee might notice that and thought you might not be able to handle the dental school's overloaded classes. Well, if that is what you choose to do, be prepare to do some serious explaining. Also, keep you GPA up up up.

All the best 🙂

Bing gave an awesome response.

3 classes a semester would be considered a joke by many adcoms, although that doesn't mean you can't or won't get in somewhere.

Keep in mind that you had better get a 3.85+ each semester if that's all you're taking.

Good luck with the family business. Don't get me wrong, you'll gain some valuable experiences from working closely with that.

Also, look into night classes. Adding a couple of those to your schedule would bump you 5 classes, which is more respectable and normal.

For example, work at the business full time MWF, take classes during the day on T & Th, and then take night classes on MWF. It's doable, and will give you a great foundation if you pull it off.

I think it would too bec they see plenty of people that work full time and do school full time and make top notch grades

I worked 40 hours a week and avg'd 16 hours a term, with my heaviest term at 19 hours (4 labs...i will never forget that)

Come to think of it, now that I'm not working and just in D-school, its a hell of a lot harder than a 40 hour work week and 16 credits.

I guess think of the next few years as a training exercise

Trust me, you still will have time for a small social life.

sacrifice a little now to gain a lot later.

cool, thanks for the info guys... ill rework my schedule

i've been looking at post-bac programs (since Gav mentioned about "handling the course load"). do you believe that adcoms think highly of post-bac programs? that way i could finish up my degree, then hit a rigorous science program😛

any thoughts would be welcome, thx.

bus.

Heyy guyss!

During my 2nd yr, i took one semster off to work full-time.. i reallyy needed the money.. but continued with full course loads the following semesters.. is this gap (not having any courses for one semster) on my transcript going to hurt my chances for dental school..?

😱 ...oh no..now i'm scared.. would i have to do some explaining to ad.coms?

Taking a semester off don't really hurt your chances, as long as you keep your gpa up. now, you worry too much

u don't have to remind me 😉 , i put immense stress on myself to accomplish my goals... i don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

I say it's a good thing, at least till end of your junior year
