Recently I suffered an injury to my shoulder when I took a fall during Brazilian jiu-jitsu training (damned judo roots). I had it x-rayed but nothing appeared broken. Going on 4 weeks now, though, it's still very tender.

This made me consider what might happen if I were to hurt myself during martial arts training. Do any PT/PTA students participate in potentially injury-prone hobbies? Would martial arts training be something a future PT would have to give up? I try to train smart, but I know accidents will happen (so might tripping on a sidewalk). Weightlifting, elliptical, jogging, etc. are so boring to me. I would hate to have to give up exercise that is so stimulating and rewarding.

The primary goal of the profession is to get our patients back to doing what they were doing when they were injured. So I see no need for you to give up any sports or exercise.
