Hey guys Im doing my OB rotation and see almost all female docs and nurses wear danskos but never any male attendings or residents. Do only gals wear them or can guys wear them too?

Men wear them too in surgical fields, and it's not unusual. Most male surgeons I know have a pair. However, most guys seem to take a little more time getting used to the feel of them than women do.

I've been buying the cheap $10 garden-work shoes from Target lately because you never know when blood or any other bodily fluid is going to spill all over your shoes and in case you forgot to put on shoe covers.

Rather put my $10 shoes in line of fire than $100 shoes.

Danskos are easily cleanable. As can be insinuated by Smurfette since she's a gensurg, I believe.

Danksos are easily cleanable. Just wipe them off. Don't have to worry about wearing shoe covers unless you want to protect your scrubs. One big reason I bought them was because the soles/arch supports are supposed to last years unlike other shoes which last 6 months. I figured if they last me a few years, it will more than make up for the cost of them. It did take a couple days before I was used to them but now I really like them. I was worried at first about being able to walk fast and not have them slip off or me roll my ankles. I've never had that happen and they are pretty stable shoes.

Dansko has a men's line of shoes, which is a little more masculine

In the hospital, i saw a couple male attendings and residents wearing them

when i was at the store getting them, the sales guy tell me they actually sell quite a few of the men's ones.

In my opinion, the conventional danskos do not have a very masculine silhouette (I think it's the narrow heel). However, I see guys wearing them all the time. Meanwhile, I (a female) trundle about in masculine-looking Merrells.

The best and only shoes that I wear in the hospital. They get me through 24-36 hours in the hospital over day/night. They saved my back and my feet. There is no gender difference at our hospital. A lot of employees wear them.

I love my Merrells. Much cheaper than Dansko, way more comfortable. I have a pair of these that I wear every day. You can usually find them on the discount shoe sites for a great price (I think I got mine for about $75 or $80).
