So on Dartmouth's Website they say they have an obligation to Maine and New Hampshire residents. However, their entering class is always 90% out of state. Is this because not many NH residents apply (like myself) or are they full of it? (I will admit, NH is not a very populous state)

I think it may be because not so many apply. I know that from my undergrad's 2003 applicant class, of all the poeple that applied to Dartmouth the one person that got in was a New Hampshire resident. While he/she was good, there were other "better number" people ahead of him/her. Hope that helps

I am a NH resident and would like to see more people from NH going to Dartmouth. In the MSAR book I have, the ratio was slightly higher for NH residents who applied to get an acceptance than the out of stater pool.

as a nh resident i didnt actually apply due to their numbers -- if you look at the aamc data, about 70 or so nh residents apply to med schools every year, so as far as dartmouth goes - ive heard that they take 7 or so of us, but its still the top 7 in the state....

Is Dartmouth an Ivy League? A private school? Do private schools have the same obligation to prefer in state students vs. out-of-state?

It is an Ivy league school, and it is also a private school. Not all private schools have same obligation to prefer in-state applicants. Most don't, however there are some that prefer more in-state applicants.

Awesome, thanks for the reply, it certainly cleared up my confusion. I'm not from NH, but I would LOVE to at least interview there at Dartmouth. So far everything I've seen about it looks wonderful!

I am not a NH resident, but I interviewed at Dartmouth and absolutely fell in love with it!!! IT is definately one of my top choices!!! Well, all you residents and nonresidents waiting to hear from them good luck!

So I am re-awakening this thread because I recieved an interview invitation from Dartmouth. Have the other New Hampshirites (or Mainers), or anybody else for that matter, recieved an interview. I want to see if Dartmouth is fullfilling it's "obligation" to NH or ME residents.
