I posted some advice last night about my experience with the DAT (kind of lengthy). In a nutshell, I took the Kaplan course and utilized the online material. I also used Cliff's AP Bio, Chad's Videos for GC, and class notes for OC. RC and QR I only used Kaplan's materials. I missed a few on QR that were right on the tip of my tongue!! Those three might have gotten me to a 20 in QR, but I am very pleased with 19.

Practice a ton and get your timing down! Eliminate wrong answers and have confidence in yourself going into the exam.

Thank you so much SDN. I owe a lot to this forum and all those people whose posts I read that gave me the confidence to succeed. I am very happy with my scores and hope to get in dental school this cycle!

Are these pretty solid scores? I like them, but there seem to be a lot of higher scores on SDN.

Rhetorical, right? If most schools are averaging 19 and such, solid is the operative word.

My goal is a 20 or above in each section. Excellent job I hope I do as well.

These scores are t3h sux0rs. Everyone knows you need at least 25 to even be considered for Dental school 😛

You don't need to worry even a little about your DAT scores. If your GPA is 3.5 or higher and you have decent ECs, you'll be a great candidate.

JUST GET THE APPLICATION in ASAP. You want to get in the "first batch" since you're already done with DAT. Good luck with the application process!

Would getting the application in by next week be an okay time frame? Thank you all for the comments. I just wanted a little reassurance from others.

Did you use DAT destroyer at all?
Esp. for bio.....was cliff's ap and kaplan enough?
I found Cliffs AP and Kaplan to be enough for biology. I wish I would have gone through Cliffs AP about four times instead of just once. Same with Kaplan. I studied them both very hard, but repetition is something I would do in hindsight. I just focused on the big picture. Like many others, I had about two or three bio questions on the DAT that were out of nowhere. Not sure how I would have studied for those three, but the rest were covered.

I did not use DAT Destroyer. Check out my other post. It details what I used and how I studied. Also, read as many posts on SDN as you can about the DAT. I gained a lot of valuable insight from this forum.

Yeah, national average is about 19 for most schools. I'd say 21 is solid! At least I'd be happy about them!! Of course there is always someone who is a little better on tests, oh well. Also you have to think if the average acceptance is 19, there are people applying with 17 AA's and below. Also if the average is 19 there are 17's and 18's being accepted as well as 21+ so I think your score is safe as long as your GPA, EC's, shadowing, and volunteering are on par.

Something I have noticed as well is that the SDN community has better than average scores, which freak me out a lot when I look at them. But there are many people scoring much lower on the DAT, we just don't hear about it because they don't post them on here. There is a person from my school who is taking the DAT for the 3rd time this summer, I want to know what their first two attempts were, but am hesitant to ask. I would say they are fairly low if they feel that they needs to retake, especially since scores are good for 3 years. Don't worry, apply wisely and good luck!!

In a nutshell, I think that a majority of the scores posted on SDN are towards the top of the spectrum so it makes us think that most applicants we are applying with are 20+ AA with 3.5+ GPA's since its primarily what we read on here. I always have to remind myself that there are a good number of applicants with much lower stats that we are applying with.
