So.. I just finished my DAT. I'm super glad it's over, but I don't know what I feel about my scores. This was my first time taking it and I'm planning on applying this cycle. I have a 3.6 gpa 3.4 science from University of Michigan with 80+ hours of shadowing and lots of extracurriculars. I would greatly appreciate if you guys could give me advice on what I should do! What are my chances? Do I need to retake? Thanks!!

PA: 20
QR: 15 🙁
RC: 21
BIO: 19
GC: 19
OC: 18
TS: 19
AA: 18

I heard that QR is the least important. If I were you, I would retake if you feel you could do better. How did you prepare yourself for QR? Did you spend a lot/any time on it?

It seems that the QR this week is brutal. Maybe it is a way that the ADA is trying to normalize/bring down AA scores. Depending on your other stats, I would consider a retake. The sciences are good, but none over 20 might hurt you though.

i would re-take it as soon as you can... i had a very similar scores last yr and was rejected from all schools that i applied.. and that 15 will really hurt you b/c a lot of schools have a 17 min for all sections!.. i knw it sucks.. i felt the same way.. but i'm sure you'll do much better next time

To be quite honest, in my opinion, you score aren't too bad. With a 19 TS, which is slightly above the nat'l avg, and an RC of 21... It's not too bad. I wouldn't worry at all. Being that it's your first time taking the DATs, you can always apply next year. This will give you more time to put in those EC's and shadowing hours. Again... this is only my opinion and what I've seen. Others may think otherwise.

BTW...How long did you study for and what mats did you use?

I studied for about 2-3 months. I used Kaplan BB, Destroyer, Topscore, and CDP. I was scoring from a 18-20 on my QR section on the practice tests. I don't know what happened today.. 😕

How did you score on the other sections with top score?
I'd agree with the general consensus that you should retake and just hope for the best in the meantime. It's always good to be proactive. Good luck!

Look around the forums... everyone doesn poorly on QR... Also, many dental schools admit that it is the LEAST important portion.

I was scoring from 19-21 in bio and gc, and at least 25 in ochem with 21-23 AA. I found the actual DAT to be a lot harder than the Topscore practice exams.

what do you feel made the real DAT harder than topscore? especially on ochem, did they have things like reactions you werent familiar with? thanks.

i think its all about when you sent in your applications now. That is by far teh most crucial thing for you now. If you havent sent in your apps do that asap.
I applied last year and my scores were a little bit lower than yours, same for a friend of mine who got an 18 AA and her math and RC were lower than yours. She got in tufts. We had same scores but she had sent in her application about a week-10 days before mine and that made a huge difference since her application batch were the last ones called for interview and all of them were accepted.

We had end our applications in August. Do you still have time. I heard of someone with a AA 16 got in Boston coz he applied super early.

Good luck though.

were you able to finish all the questions in QR?? Or did you run short on time. I remember when i took it last year it was because I missed 8-9 questions that my score was quite low.

How were the other sections???
