Hey guys. Took the DAT today. Scores are:

PA: 18 82.7%
QR: 19 85.5%
RC: 27 99.8%
Bio: 21 97.2%
GC: 25 98.9%
OC: 27 100%

TS: 24 99.8%
AA: 24 99.8%

Although I'm extremely happy with my TS and AA (who wouldn't be), the PAT score and QR score really bums me out. The angles, as most people who have taken the test would agree, were extremely difficult.

I'm planning on applying to all of the California dental schools, with UoP and UCLA as my top choices. Any opinions on whether that stupid 18 will drag me down?

Thanks for your honest input...I'll be back online later to answer questions about the test and tell you guys how I prepared.

Ugh. Mmmph. Let me think about this. *Crystal ball, crystal ball, what school would Mrxle3 get into?*

Crystal Ball replies: "I don't know since I can't tell the future. However, you will only know after you apply, so good luck."

Ps. Your score is the envy of at least 80% of all the people who took the DAT, furthermore, the 27, 25s are absolutely awesome. So, be happy! Yes 18 is a bummer, but you should be elated about the other scores.

The PAT avg of UOP was 19...which means they admitted students with less than 19 and more than 19. I think you are fine. Good luck

Check their FAQ's:
"
Q: Are my Dental Admission Test (DAT) scores competitive?
Ans: Our incoming class averages are:

Academic average 21
Perceptual ability 19
Reading comprehension 21
Quantitative reasoning 19
Biology 21
General chemistry 22
Organic chemistry 22
Total science 21

Although our general minimum acceptable score is 16 on all scales, competitive scores this year were 20 and higher. If your scores are significantly lower than our class averages, you should retake the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) before September 2005."

Did you get the magnesium, cell communication, and herbal med as the reading comprehension topics? Also, do we need to know any conversion like ounces, pounds, gallons, and quarts? Thanks and awesome scores buddy.

[RC]: My passages were on Cancer, Stocks, and the Nervous System. My advice would be to make the roadmap as Kaplan teaches you; I did this, and I had no trouble answering the questions at all!

[OC]: Nothing much to say here, OCHEM has always been my favorite subject, and I literally didn't study it at all for the DAT. However, I've been told that Kaplan does a good job of covering what you need to know for the test.

[GC]: Always my lowest score when I took the Kaplan tests, this section was a lot easier on the real thing. Study Kaplan and you will be golden. Don't stress about it; all the numbers work out just fine in the calculations

[Bio]: I'm shocked that my score was above 20, and even more shocked that a 21 was a 97.2%. This section was really hard for me; Kaplan does NOT cover everything you need to know. In my opinion, the only reason why I got the score I did was because I used a lot of logic in narrowing down the answers for the questions I didn't know and made very educational (in my opinion anyways) guesses. No sea urchin or any of the other questions I read about on SDN

[QR]: I'm normally really good at math, and the math was extremely easy. However, I was so tired by the end, and my poor performance on the PAT really started to hit me around this section, so I completely (and I mean completely) lost my focus. My fair warning is to not be like me...don't dwell on your past sections!!!

[PAT]: My worst score. Angles were indeed a lot harder than Kaplan!!! I would suggest studying PAT using sources other than Kaplan (I had been averaging 25+ on the PAT on Kaplan tests). Hole punching had a lot of strange folds as well.

Any questions/comments are definitely welcome.
